The Cottage is a cozy private space with beautiful tile work and a fully equipped kitchen to host up to 4 people. All conveniently located in perfect position to explore the lower Puna area, active lava flows, snorkeling, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park & more. Regarding pets, it's mandatory you communicate in your reservation request that you'd like to bring your pet with you, please give a brief description of your pet(s), size, age, socialized, etc. Additional fees & restrictions apply.

The space

The Rainbow Eucalyptus tree may be one of the most stunning trees you'll ever find - and you can gaze at this beauty in a gorgeous jungle setting from your lanai at the Rainbow Cottage. There are many special features to this sweet small house including custom tile work, Mexican Saltillo and Travertine mosaic throughout, concrete countertops, original artwork, a fully equipped kitchen (a variety of coffee makers, bakeware, cookware, juicer, water purifier, blender, crockpot, etc), eco-friendly amenities such as rain catchment with UV filter and solar hot water, a lanai with hammock, washer/dryer, covered carport, and a property also hosted by friendly and curious animals. Yours are welcome here too!

Conveniently located in Leilani Estates, just outside of Pahoa Village, this is a great anchor point to explore the Lower Puna District, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hilo and the Hamakua Coastline. A short 10-20 minute drive away you'll find the gorgeous Puna Coastline with volcanically heated ocean swimming pools (Ahalanui Park), incredible snorkeling and swimming in Kapoho, and surfing and swimming at Pohoiki. Pahoa is a funky off-beat small town 10 minutes away with several great dining spots including Thai, Mexican, American-Pacific Fusion, and a Bakery/Cafe. Pahoa additionally provides basic amenities including a Natural Food store, a regular grocery, Post Office, Police and Fire Stations. Other attractions to the Lower Puna area include the variety of open air markets that occur several times a week that have live musical entertainment, food booths, crafts, fresh local and organic produce, plus a whole lot more. The area also offers many healing arts including Ecstatic Dance at Kalani Eco resort, a variety of yoga classes and skilled acupuncturists, massage therapist, naturopathic physicians, and other healers all of which you host can connect you with. Your host incidentally is a Personal Chef who specializes in natural foods, so please feel free to inquire about those services which are available.

House Rules
Check in is anytime after 2PM
Check out by 12PM (noon)

As I live on the property as well, general consideration of noise after 10pm is expected. Smoking is only permitted outside on the lanai and I request the adjoining door to the bedroom be closed if someone is smoking . I ask that people be mindful of leaving lights on, using electricity in general as it is very expensive here in Hawaii. If you'd like to bring your pets with you please clarify in your reservation request and include information about your pet(s), age, size, needs, routines, etc. I will OK them to stay here if they are well attended, well behaved and up to date on their treatments and shots. Depending on different parameters there will be additional fees for the pet (A great Dane vs a cat can make a price difference) in the ballpark of $10 per day.

Beautiful! So grateful we were able to stay in this wonderful cottage in the jungle. We were able to wake up early and drive to volcano for sunset (took about 45 minutes) it was all we wanted :) Thank you Sofia!

Great location. Beautiful garden. Spacious apartment. Sofia was very helpful and did everything in her power to make our stay as comfortable as possible. You can meet dogs and cats on the property, they are very friendly. I can recommend this place!

Had a blast staying with Sofia. Loved the house. Loved her cooking (extra charge). Location was great for exploring volcano and that side of the island. Sofia was lovely. Will hopefully stay here again!

My fellow travelers and I enjoyed the beauty and seclusion of this charming and comfortable accommodation. The bedrooms and living room are cozy and we all felt at home. The shower is nice and hot, the kitchen is big enough to prepare meals, and the coffee maker makes great coffee. The dogs and cats were friendly and rather quiet. We only heard the dogs bark initially, upon our arrival. I sometimes forgot they were there. If you are worried about them being noisy, they aren't. The location is close to amazing scenic parks and swimming. Pahoa has a health food grocery store with a rather nice selection of prepared food, supplies, and coffee (there is a coffee grinder at the cottage, so buy whole bean).

Sofia was very hospitable and her places was great. Two separate bedrooms with queen beds. The fan wasn't working in one of the rooms so it was pretty hot at night, other than that I had a great stay and wo ikd recommend this place.

Loved our stay at Sofia's! It was very private and she also has a home on the property so was there for any questions we had. Very cute home, was the perfect size for our family of two adults and two kids. The lovely bowl of fresh fruit when we arrived was a wonderful introduction to the tasty homegrown fruit of Hawaii. :-)

The cottage was exactly as we hoped. There are soma you beautiful plants that we didn't have time to identify all of them. We liked listening to the frogs and insects instead of television! Sofia was very accommodating yet gave us our privacy! Overall, we were very pleased with our stay.

Aloha! I've lived happily in Hawaii for nearly 20 years. I live on the eastern portion of the Big Island where Kilauea Volcano has been erupting nearly non-stop since the early 80's. I live in the jungle with my wonderful two dogs, three cats and a few chickens. I've worked as a personal chef focusing on health supportive cooking for the past 11 years. I'm a swimmer for fun and fitness, practice yoga and overall lead a pretty healthy lifestyle - with a balance of indulgences. When traveling I'm always interested in seeing a real slice of a place, meeting, eating and seeing an authentic version of what makes that place great, and side-stepping anything touristy. When a host says they have a dog or cat on the property, you may as well have said you have a jacuzzi, nothing makes a place more comfortable to me than having loving critters around. I'm excited to get to know new people and share what I have.
