Looking for a home away from home? A place to rest and rejuvenate that is close to the city (10 minutes to the CBD) but surrounded by nature, her silence and peaceful sounds?

The space

This unique and charming light filled room with its own private entrance, en-suite bathroom, and custom designed, fully functioning kitchen is nestled at the foot of the majestic Kunanyi (Mount Wellington) and offers an experience of everything that is nourishing and beautiful about Tasmania.

The water views of the river Derwent from the comfort of your warm and cozy queen sized bed and views of the looming mountain above are second to none, with sunrises worth setting an alarm for.

The land is abundant with wildlife and features vast organic food and flower gardens.

All of the water (drinking and bathing) on the property, is sourced from a sparkling mountain stream that boarders the property and is some of the cleanest water in the world.

Guest access

Organic herbal teas grown and prepared on the land and organic fair-trade coffee is provided. There is a TV/DVD for those rainy afternoons and a small library, so you can take a book, find a spot in the garden amongst the flowers, chooks and berries and get lost in a story, or the simple beauty of this magical place.

Other things to note

The bathroom and toilet are separated from the main room by a semi open stone curved wall, as can be seen in the photo's. Please note that the room is part of a peaceful and nurturing family friendly home, all are welcome but we would prefer if there is no smoking on the property.

We have a dog named Lulu, who is a very loving golden retriever, and we have bee hives on the property during most of the year.

We look forward to welcoming you to our little slice of paradise.

A lovely weekend getaway. It feels like you're in the bush, but are actually only minutes out of Hobart. The studio is perfect for two, and the kitchen well equipped. We loved the complimentary home-grown herbal tea and the local honey which was available to purchase. Communication was great, check in was really easy. Highly recommend. Thanks Mieke and Gaia!

I recommend anyone visiting Hobart to stay here at the magical mountain nest! Mieke is a fabulous and welcoming host and provides everything you need and more! Loved the big selection of teas! The room was even better than we imagined and the bed was so comfortable I didn't want to leave it! I would love to stay here again next time I am in Hobart, and get some of homemade honey next time too! Thanks very much for making our stay so comfortable and homely. One of the best airbnb stays I have experienced so far! :)

Mieke' place was the perfect retreat, it was a peaceful haven yet only a 10minute drive from Hobart. We were able to trek straight up Mt Wellington from our front door which was a beautiful walk. The nest was charming and comfortable with everything you need, and Mieke was a lovely and caring host. We would highly recommend her place to anyone looking to visit Tasmania. Thank you!

We loved staying at Mieke's place on the footsteps of Mount Wellington. The house is very convenient for walks on the mountain and we particularly enjoyed our walk at dusk where we saw lots of wildlife. There are lovely shops and cafes nearby and it is only short drive from the centre. Mieke was very welcoming and gave us many tips for our stay.

If you love peace and quiet and beautiful scenery this is a great place to stay. Mieke made us feel very welcome and was keen to help us explore this beautiful area. We loved the 'nest', watching the sunrise , the weather over city and the wildlife made it very special.

This really is a magical mountain nest! Being able to wake up to see the sunrise from your very bed is something you only dream about! We only had a car for the first day of our stay here, and after that took to walking through the trails of Mount Wellington that start at the end of her drive. It's a lovely walk through the forest down to the main road where there's the Female Factory and the Cascade Brewery (and after a tour of the brewery, an easy stumble back!). Mieke holds such a peaceful and loving space, only a moment in her company and all your worries drift away! Thanks again, Mieke - we'd love to come back one day.

Mieke and her truly magical mountain nest made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. There is no deception here, this was as described, a beautiful wooden, open plan flat with incredible sunrise views out across Hobart harbour and nestled in the crook of Mt Wellington, lends itself to easy trips to explore the area further. It was a joy to spend our evenings surrounded by her chickens and the resident wallabies and have freshly picked berries from her garden and her home-made honey for breakfast. Mieke and her family were friendly and very helpful hosts ensuring we got the most of our few days in Hobart. It was a difficult goodbye and if Mieke is kind enough to keep it on airbnb in the future, we may even make it all the way back here from Wales for another memorable break. Thank you

Hi, I have a great love for nature and her ever changing forms. You will often find me working or pottering around in the gardens, or in my kitchen preserving and processing the gifts of the land. I am blessed to live in such a pristine environment and I look forward to share the peace and beauty of this place with you.
