The Aluminium Palace is a 1960 Airstream caravan, lovingly restored & decorated. It is nestled in the woods on our farm with a private hot tub, bbq, fire pit, outdoor table & chairs, outdoor sofa in a fenced private garden suitable for kids. Inside is a bathroom, sleeping, cooking and living space. The adjacent shed has a dishwasher, washing machine & storage. Suitable for a couple or a family of 4. Well behaved dogs welcome but not permitted on furniture & guests must clean-up after dogs.
The space
We do not accept bookings for groups of adult friends.
The Ally Pally is open plan with no walls separating dining, sleeping and bathroom areas. Only curtains.
The Ally Pally is situated in a private enclosed space. Inside the Airstream there is a seating and dining area that converts in to a king size bed. The kitchen area has everything you need for preparing meals including a hob, oven, fridge, toaster, kettle. There are 2 single beds, which can be also be used as sofas - this is where the TV is. The bathroom is just that - there is a tiny bath! But also a shower, sink and flushing regular household toilet. It is a challenge to fit a regular loo and shower into a caravan space so IT IS A LITTLE TIGHT in the bathroom. The bathroom is separated from the rest of the caravan by a curtain - no door. To keep you nice and warm in the colder months there is a super-charged electric heater and the bathroom has a heated towel rail. We use linen or high thread count cotton bedding and natural duvets - feather and down, silk or merino.
Next to the caravan is the shed, which has more facilities to make your stay comfortable - a large sink, dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge freezer, microwave, drying rack and cordless vacuum and plenty of space for storing bikes, surf boards or other kit. On the front of the shed, overlooking the terrace, is a large porch area providing under cover seating on the outdoor sofa and here you also have shelter for all weather barbequing on the weber q220 gas barbeque.
Outside you have your own private space with a hot tub, barbeque, fire pit, outdoor table and chairs, outdoor sofa, and garden, which is fenced and suitable for small children and dogs. In winter/spring 2021/2022 we planted mixed native hedging around the perimeter fence and flowering bulbs that will grow to provide a beautiful secluded area. Come the summer months you will be surrounded by beautiful mature trees, walls of green.
The 4-person hot tub is for your own private use. Here you can soak, relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside and beautiful views of the stars.
Also on the terrace is a kadai fire pit which includes a grill so you can enjoy cooking over wood. A small allocation of wood will be supplied to guests upon arrival. Should you require additional wood, this can be purchased at local supermarkets and service stations.
Guest access
There is parking space for one vehicle at the entrance gate of the Ally Pally. There is a light for when you get home in the dark.
In addition to all of the private comforts of the Ally Pally, you are also free to roam Coombe Farm. You can stroll to meet the chickens and cows, enjoy the gardens, sit by the stream, or start on a walk on the footpath that runs through the farm.
Barnstaple is a well equipped market town and is 3 miles away. All of North Devon's beaches are within easy reach, Saunton sands beach is about a 25 minute drive. Exmoor is nearby too, Simonsbath is also about 25 minutes away.

Coombe Farm is a working farm. So you will never be far from the sights and sounds of agricultural livestock and machinery.

We have a public footpath that runs through our property and we are only a 15 minute stroll through fields and woodland (wellies recommended, we have many sizes available to borrow!) to the village of Goodleigh where you can find a lovely meal and a drink at our local pub, The New Inn at Goodleigh, where Jules and Justin will welcome you - booking essential.
There are many walks from the farm through surrounding fields and woodland. This is also a great place for cycling; towards Exmoor if you like it hilly, or on the Tarka trail towards Braunton or Bideford for a flat, off-road, tar-sealed ride (the longest one in the UK). We are a short drive from some of the best surfing in the UK at Croyde, Putsborough or Saunton Sands. We have lockable storage available for any equipment you bring.
As keen walkers, cyclists and beach-goers we are happy to provide advice, routes and maps for our guests.
