The space

Enjoy your stay in a unique historic home in the town of Paxton. The house is walking distance to antique stores, and restaurants on the downtown strip of Paxton, and 30 miles from Chambana and the UIUC campus. You will have your own private bedroom upstairs, which is connected to a bathroom, and office space. There is a shared jetted tub and shower on the first floor. Kick back and relax in the common areas downstairs; read a book in the bay window nook or try out a tune on the old piano. When the weather allows, enjoy the landscaping of the front yard, and the organic gardens, sitting areas, and fruit trees in the back. Grab a book and enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine beneath the magnolia tree, and lounge in one of the hammock chairs or hammocks strung around the property. For breakfast, coffee/tea, local eggs, toast or English muffins, and local jam are available for you to prepare to your liking.
Wireless internet is available. There is plenty of street parking available.

Guest access

You will have your own private bedroom upstairs, which is connected to a bathroom, and office space (the office space is mainly where my research lives, but if you think you might like to work there, let me know and I will make sure to clear an area for you). Interaction with guests

I really enjoy meeting new people from all sorts of backgrounds. I am usually quite busy with work, school (I am pursuing my PhD), and various projects, but when time allows, and if you are up for it, I would love to relax and chat over a cup of tea or glass of wine.

Other things to note

Unfortunately, the outside of the house needs to be painted, but despite that external blemish, the house is quite comfortable. I have been doing a lot of remodeling on the house over the years, and though it is mostly finished, the hallways and back porch still need some work (it is still a work in progress). If I ever have an indoor project that could conflict with your stay I will definitely let you know before you book.
This is a sustainably oriented, low waste house, which means that recycling and composting are mandatory (it takes me several months to fill one small trash bag with actual trash). Please be respectful of this low waste effort, and if you have any questions as to what or how, I will gladly explain my strategy or help you find the information.
If you are familiar with that living style, fantastic! If not, please don’t be intimidated by the concept, it is pretty simple in practice.
Check in is flexible, and check out is by noon (though if you ask nicely you can lounge in the garden until later or keep your bags here while you are off antiquing).
Arrangements can be made to accommodate more than two guests.
There is a cat that lives here, his name is Cinder, and he can be very affectionate and friendly; he also seems to like dogs.
I have a lot of my own artwork throughout the house, as well as many fragile items, so the house is not very child friendly. That said, I am open to hosting families with well behaved children.
For wintertime guests: in an attempt to make this house more energy efficient I opted to have forced air heat just downstairs, and heat the bedrooms on the second floor separately as needed. The guest room has an electric heater as well as an electric mattress pad heater, which should keep you nice and cozy.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets

No smoking, and no drugs allowed on premises. Pets might be allowed depending on their temperament, but there may be an added fee, and/or they may have to stay outside. Please contact me to discuss that option. Unfortunately I had a very negative experience with a previous guest who had brought a large dog, so now I am very hesitant about allowing other people's pets into my house.

This place is lovely inside, but the outside was foreboding. We couldn’t sleep overnight because of the heat wave and no air conditioning, so ended up booking a hotel and the cancellation policy was strict, so we ended up paying double. I realize it was not the hostess’ fault and did not ask for a refund. There were many things of interest in the home, and in cooler weather it would have been a fun adventure, and could be suitable for a good-sized family.

Anya's home is well equipped, quaint and very clean. It is a great landing spot for those visiting the Paxton area. She is a great host and I will definitely be back.
