About this listing

This beautiful 2 bed Apt on the Wild Atlantic Way has been carefully restored to accentuate the character of this ancestral farmhouse. On the doorstep of the Greenway & local amenities this property is ideal for couples, families & outdoor enthusiasts

The space

Whilst maintaining the charisma of the original 16th century farmhouse this apartment has been renovated to a high standard incorporating modern appliances. Situated on the outskirts of Newport town the grounds are set on the banks of the Brown Oak river with a private pier used in the 16th Century by smugglers and the Pirate Queen Grainne Uaile. There is also an 18th century watchtower on the grounds, and Peter keeps a small farm and is always happy to introduce families to some of the animals.

Guest access

Guests have full use of the apartment located on the first floor of the house. Please note the ground floor is for hosts use only accessed via a separate entrance. Upon arrival we will show you the areas of the grounds you may walk.

Interaction with guests

We live on the grounds only a two minute walk from the apartment; love meeting our guests and are happy to offer as much or little information on the locality as wished.

A lovely farm house close to gorgeous Newport. We got there late on Friday when all the places selling food had closed up & Peter drove into Westport to collect us a pizza. How's that for hospitality!!!!highly recommended this place.

We had a wonderful time in Joan and Peters beautiful house. It is perfectly located, in the lovely city of Newport. You can walk to the city even so it is absolutely quiet and peaceful. The view over the river is beautyful and from the sleepingroom you can see a horse in the garden. It is very idyllic, we loved it. Joan and Peter are so great hosts, it was so nice to meet them. They gave us a lot of tips what to do. Unfortunately we didn`t have time to perceive Peter`s friendly offer to kayak. The flat is cosy and friendly and there is everything you need. Every morning we had fresh eggs from the hens. This part of Ireland is so great, we discovered a lot of amazing places. So I definitely recommend this lovely house to have a wonderful time in Ireland!

Joan and Peter's place was the perfect stop for my family and I as we traveled from south Ireland to the north. After a long day of traveling, Joan welcomed us to the house with a basket full of bread, eggs, and milk. My toddler son loved the horse and chickens that shared the property! Joan's advice to walk to the pub just down the street was much appreciated and we really enjoyed our drinks and the atmosphere there! Newport is such a cute town and we would love to visit again!

The outside of home does not appear as photographed- there is a large old camper sitting right next to he house and the first thing that you see. The home is old and a cute update inside with everything you need. Unfortunately our host did not have the home ready for us as it had an overwhelming mustiness and we were unable to stay as planned- we slept there as the bedrooms were not quite as bad and we had no where else to g

Joan & Peter User ProfileJoan & Peter is a superhost.

Hi we're Joan & Peter, we're both retired and have one son & four daughters spread across the globe, and we love to travel. However, we are also fortunate to live in an idyllic location with a lot of history attached. Peter is a keen boatman, and we grab every opportunity to go out among the islands in Clew Bay, which is right on our doorstep. We both enjoy entertaining and meeting new people. We're very excited starting this venture and hope that if you chose to stay with us it will be a memorable one.
