About this listing

Historic but thoughtfully renovated; enjoy the 5 fireplaces, modern bathrooms, luxuriously comfortable beds. The house is in a beautiful garden-filled setting next to hiking trails. Locally sourced gourmet breakfast included in price.

The space

Henrietta Suite is a beautiful light-filled space with cathedral ceilings and exposed beams. It has its own brand-new bathroom with deep soaking tub, heated floor tiles, and skylight. If you stay in this room you will have a private entrance and your own balcony from which you can view our small farm and gardens. You can have your tea or coffee out there in the morning or a snack in the afternoon. Enjoy a late lie-in under the down comforter in the queen-size bed.

Guest access

You can choose to read in the library downstairs or enjoy the fire in the living room in winter or the porch swing in the other months of the year. Breakfast will be served on the deck or in the dining room, whichever you prefer. Tea/coffee is available at all times. Enjoy the plants and animals in garden and on the farm and take a hike on the adjacent Byles trail.

Interaction with guests

Jasmine and I will be happy to tell you about the attractions, food, performances, and other goodies in the area. We'd love to sit and talk with you about our individual adventures or leave you to yourselves if that is what you prefer.

Other things to note

We are just beginning to farm our property and have recently planted over 125 blueberry bushes, 100 strawberry plants, 4 fruit trees, and multiple herbs. We plant a big organic garden every year and will be adding more fruits and veggies this next year. We have chickens from which we gather the eggs for your breakfast. We raise a couple of pigs seasonally. Bacon, sausage, and ham that come from them are delicious! You are welcome to help out if you care to but get our permission before starting.

The Henrietta House is a lovely Colonial-era house, restored with great care and pride. We had a wonderful stay, Marian and Jasmine are gracious hosts who are eager to share the history of the house and grounds with guests. Marian was responsive to our needs and sought out suggestions from us about how to further improve upon her already beautiful home. My mother will be staying there soon and is looking forward to it!

My husband and I love B&Bs and have been to many in the tri-state/East Coast area over the years. Marian and Henrietta House will stand out in our memory as one of our very favorite B&B experiences. Marian is a gracious, interesting, and incredibly welcoming hostess who's taken great care in restoring her beautiful home, which is tastefully decorated and filled with treasures. The back deck was great for relaxing, and the bed was incredibly comfortable (that doesn't always happen!). Last, holy wow! The breakfasts were amazing!! Marian and Jasmine clearly put their hearts into their work, and it shows. We had a great experience and would recommend Henrietta House wholeheartedly, especially for folks needing a quiet respite from city life.

I came to visit an old friend who is all but dissertation at UConn, and also living in Ashford. The location was perfect and far superior to what was closer to campus. I loved staying with Marian and her assistant Jasmine! The accommodations were too die for- straight out of a magazine, and the morning breakfast was gourmet and made from local ingredients. (Mouthewatering frittata, light and fluffy waffles...) It was just me and my 4 month old baby, and after just a short time I trusted Marian to hold my daughter while I moved bags around or otherwise got settled. I would recommend this to anyone looking to stay in the area. I'll definitely be back, and for a longer stay, not just to visit my old friend, but to see my new ones, Marian and Jasmine.
