Was not able to stay in his place due to unforeseen circumstances. Nevertheless, he has tried his best to help us out on our end. Very caring and trustworthy Airbnb host and recommend 100%

Joes place was absoulety wonderful, he was so nice and everything was soo clean!! the room and the shared kitchen was way bigger than expected! no bugs or lizards were seen the three nights we stayed. the stars are nice and bright outside! remember to park in the grass. such a safe and quiet neighborhood. no steep hills. lots of space. joe provided all the basic even beach towels and i think i even saw some boogie boards. coffee and dishes and hot water!! stand up shower worked great! the big island is just that "big" but Joes was very fun drive to Mauna Kea which is a steep road up the volcano but totally worth the free star gazing program and if you like to hike get there before 5pm to hike up the close hill and watch sunset. 10min drive to Hilo great for food and drinks and the nightlife. lots of fishing near by, there was a great tan free beach not to far called Keehena beach and definitely try to plan to see (45min drive) lava field and lava meet ocean at the end of road 130 (hike is 3hrs or rent bike $20each for 2hr ride) visit uncle roberts farmer market (Wednesdays only) for the coolest festival party ever! thanks joe for enriching our trip!!!!!

Lovely stay in a little neighborhood north of Hilo. Great access to the whole Eastern side of Island - waterfalls, lava, beaches - all day trip distance from Joe's place. Accommodations were as described, we slept well, had nice warm showers, ate our breakfast in the little kitchen area. For the price, there is no where better to stay near Hilo!

We had a good stay at Joe's house. The place is just as described. The bed is comfortable, there is a shared bathroom and a small kitchen with a microwave, a blender and a coffee maker. We had a personal mini fridge in the room. Thank you!

Joes place was the best value! Simple, but just a nice safe place and a comfy bed and wifi. The room is private, while the bathroom and common kitchen area can be shared with other travelers. No stovetop for cooking was the only disappointment. Joe is such a nice guy and very knowledgeable about the island and its history. Glad we stayed with him!

Very welcoming family and great location, Joe's place is centrally located, comfortable and very cozy spot with plenty of great things to do all around. We will hope to come back soon!

We love to travel and meet new people, but since the arrival of our children we do not get out as much. We have had many great host during our travels and it is time for us to give back. Our idea was to provide a nice and clean alternative to the hostel so young (and old) people on a budget could use our ohana as a base for sightseeing on the east side of the big island.
