A peaceful location in the Dorset hills a mile from the centre of historic Shaftesbury. This unique property is located in an elevated position which allows for some of the finest views across the rolling countryside.

The space
The accommodation is finished to the highest standard offering four bedrooms, an upstairs sitting room and a balcony to take in the breathtaking views and sunsets that are something else! The property has been recently overhauled to reveal the 200 year old stone walls and extended with an oak frame with exposed beams and rooms opened up to the eaves. The modern facilities include a games room with pool table, a darts board and there are 2 sitting rooms with flat screen TVs. The historic hilltop town of Shaftesbury has strong appeal for holidaymakers. It is the home of Gold Hill, the setting for the famous Hovis advertisement with its steep cobbled street lined with picturesque cottages. This is just one example of the charm of Shaftesbury's historically preserved streets and buildings.

Other things to note
As for activities and places to visit there are a number of national trust and English heritage properties nearby Stourhead being one of the most impressive. Wardour Castle is 10 minutes drive away. There are also 2 castles at Sherborne.

Moors Valley Country Park is about 50 minutes away from here and is a great place to have a family day out and they do Go Ape there. You just pay for the car park and there's a play trail with different stop off points with climbing structures. You can also hire bikes there.

Higher Green Farm is 10 minutes from the property and they do arts days there which vary from a combination day in which they do a number of different activities or a course in Jewellery making or sculpture amongst other things.

Longleat is good with loads of different attractions for most ages, although expensive.

There are riding stables nearby at Farrington.

Cinemas are at Salisbury, Yeovil and Poole (Tower Park). Swimming pools at the Royal Chase Hotel (small leisure pool) in Shaftesbury, Gillingham and Blandford. Splashdown is at Poole.

Supermarkets are Tescos and the Co-op. There is a Lloyds, Barclays, Natwest, HSBC and Santander and a library and Post Office in Shaftesbury. There are 3 parks in Shaftesbury with play equipment and one with a skateboard / scooter park.

Much of this information will be contained in the welcome pack but if you need any more specific information prior to arrival do contact me. Two petrol stations are located at Tescos and a large roundabout of the edge of town.

Location

Shaftesbury, United Kingdom

Shaftesbury is a charming market town which is large enough to feel in touch with civilisation but small enough to have a strong community. It has a vibrant arts, music and theatrical scene with a diverse calendar of local activities and events that unite all generations of the community and visitors to the area.

In Shaftesbury there are a number of boutique clothes shops, a Deli (Turnbulls), a Butcher, a good toy shop and the usual selection of other shops.

A number of pubs and cafes are located around the town and there are a number of other great foodie pubs around the local area.

Hi, I'm Saskia and live in Shaftesbury, UK with my husband Dan and four kids. I moved to this magical part of the world from London in 2008. Of all the places I've visited on the Earth including Rio, the Lost City, Santa Marta in Colombia, the pyramids at Tikal in Guatemala, La Paz in Bolivia; Shaftesbury is up there with them. I guess as life progresses one starts to realise the beauty of what you have on your own doorstep. Our family life evolved in 2018 as we set off on a new adventure to the foothills of the Pyrenees near Perpignan. We bought a beautiful Catalan Mas near Castelnou and moved there for 2 years, the children went to French school and myself and my husband embarked on the task of renovating this incredible house which is now ready holiday letting. Favourite book....A Hundred Years of Solitude Most influential book...A Thousand Splendid Suns Movie....The Fifth Element Show....The War Horse Song....Top of the World - The Carpenters!
