Gorgeous room in the former bell tower of a loft converted schoolhouse in Bushwick. 30' cathedral ceiling, tall windows that naturally light the space, workspace & an adjoining private room with couch. Lots of shared common space and huge kitchen.

The space

The room is located in The Schoolhouse, a turn of the century public school building that has been inhabited by artists since the mid 90's. It's well known as one of the most beautiful and spacious lofts of Bushwick. This room is certainly the crown jewel of the space, located in the old bell tower.

Guest access

Large kitchen, huge open common space to work in, projector for watching movies in the main space. Great for artists or creatives, or someone just visiting who wants a taste of life in a Bushwick loft.

Interaction with guests

I am typically out of town when this room is available, but am reachable via text message if you have any questions.

Other things to note

This is a shared space (not including your private rooms of course) so please respect the other roomates. Please no additional animals, there are two cats in the loft who aren't super comfortable with new cats or dogs!

Smoking Allowed

1 queen bed, 1 couch

House Rules

Please be respectful to the others living in the space, and clean up after yourself (do your own dishes). And have fun :-)

John's place was unlike anything I've ever stayed in using Airbnb — a cavernous, expansive warehouse near Flushing Avenue station in Brooklyn, with plenty charm. I loved having access to John's turntable to play any vinyl records, his colourful LED lights fitted into the incredibly tall ceiling, and access to the roof via a ladder in the room next door. The place has about 8-9 other people staying there, but everybody has plenty space, and John's room is up a flight of stairs and out of the way, so you don't have to worry about noise. Whilst this is unavoidable, eight people does mean you end up tactically running for the shower which isn't the cleanest, and whilst there's a second 'toilet room', it's really for the cats, and isn't the pleasant. A lived in, proper artsy, beautifully massive, artists residence in Brooklyn.

Loved staying here! We had heaps of fun watching the fireworks from the roof on the 4th of July. Relaxed and easy going household & helpful housemates. John was away but everyone we met there was lovely and helpful. Close to the essential shops and public transport was super easy & close. Unique room with style & character. Bathroom could have done with a bit of a scrub but the rustic character of the place made up for it. Would recommend and revisit if in New York. :)

An amazing space! The loft is huge and although there were a lot of people living there it never felt cramped. Easy to get to pretty much anywhere as its walking distance to several metro lines. I didn’t get the chance to meet John, (my friend saw him briefly) but he has been super helpful through email and text both before and during our stay. The only negative thing I would say is that the place it not the cleanest, it could use a scrubbing. However we would absolutely come back to this loft the next time we’re in Brooklyn!

Really nice room in a spacious loft. Everyone we met through our stay was nice and relaxed. It's close to the subway and also close to some good bars and clubs. Would totally recommend it to people travelling to go out in Brooklyn.

Loved this space so much! Such a wonderful room, would love to book again some day. Bed is comfortable, decor just adds to the room feeling cozy but not at all stuffy. A lot of space to put my stuff, love that there was also a table and chairs, an aux cable and great speakers to play music, we took advantage of that and of course the LED light feature. The station to take trains to Manhattan is a quick 5 minute walk away. You see the train pass from the bedside window. (A little bit of noise, yes but for me noise is comforting so it was not at all a negative.) Location was ideal it was so close to all the BK music venues and galleries I was attending events at (I'm talking 20 minute walk tops to most of them.) And I should add it might not look like the cleanest, safest area at some intersections, but I felt safe walking around the area even at night during early AM hours. Again, beautiful room, it really felt like staying in the rooms featured in the airbnb home page and ads were someone is just waking up and there's this bliss and they mention the feeling of waking up 'feeling at home'. IT'S REAL! I was very happy to have stayed here :)))
