Our family home was designed and built by us in 2016 and is a certified Passiv-Haus. We love the large open-plan living which is perfect for entertaining and get-togethers. The large patio area and garden are great for relaxing at home, having BBQ’s or just to enjoy the countryside.

You will not be short of amenities here or things to do as you will even have access to a tennis court.

Our house is a great base to explore many tourist destinations such as Stonehenge and Winchester.

The space
On arrival at our house you will see the modern design of the house, large driveway and electric gates. Our house is positioned fully south facing to maximise the large solar panel system we have on the roof. Our detached garage doubles as an annexe and Ben’s mother lives above it, so you may see her pottering around outside, but she will be available should you be in need of anything.

Inside the house you will see the modern, minimalist style that we enjoy. The open plan central area is very light due to the duo of fully bi-folding doors directly onto the large patio. Our kitchen comes complete with many appliances. We have a 5 burner induction hob, 2 Neff ovens, an instant boiling water tap, dishwasher, as well as extra items such as a Sage coffee machine, a bread maker, an Instant Pot, a Tefal grill and a toaster.

The main lounge has a 50” TV with a separate sound system. There is also a Playstation 4 linked to the TV for your use. There are also a large selection of DVDs, games, books and puzzles for your use as well. The dining area has a table large enough to seat 10 people and there is also a breakfast bar with seating for 2. This area is a great social space and we find it is where we spend most of our time as a family.

The movie room is also downstairs in a custom-built room with extra insulation. This room will make you feel like you are at the cinema as the ceiling mounted projector projects directly onto a 124” wall with excellent clarity, plus it has surround sound to really make it feel like a cinema. There is also another Playstation 4 available in this room as well. If you are in need of extra sleeping space, then the sofa bed in here converts to a comfy double bed.

The utility room is next to the kitchen and has a washing machine, microwave and double sink. There is a back door for access to the patio and garden too.

Upstairs are 4 lovely large bedrooms. The master bedroom has a super king bed and plenty of wardrobe space. There is a 43” smart TV in the room and it has its own ensuite with shower, toilet and large sink.

The second bedroom has 2 double beds, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe and has a lovely view out onto the garden.

The third bedroom has another super king size bed, large wardrobe and chest of drawers and also has a 43” smart TV. This room has a double aspect over the garden on both sides and is beautifully light and inviting.

The second and third bedrooms are opposite the family bathroom, which has 2 large sinks, an electronically filling bath and a separate open shower. There is so much space in the bathroom the whole family could fit in it at the same time.

The last bedroom has bunk beds and is directly opposite the master bedroom. This room has its own ensuite with toilet, sink and shower.

Outside there is no shortage of space. The patio not only has outdoor seating for meals, but also a separate seating area for enjoying pre-dinner drinks, or relaxing after dinner. Our charcoal Weber BBQ is large enough for cooking up a delicious feast for many people to enjoy on a summer evening.

We have a small play area for young children, including 2 swings and a slide. On the far side of the garden there is a large tree swing attached to an enormous beech tree which any child will love. We also have a basketball hoop, a selection of balls and other outdoor games for your use.

The tennis court is situated right next door (at Elle’s mums house), with the entry being just through a small gate into their back garden. We will provide tennis rackets and balls for you to use as well. Again, you may see Elles mum pottering around as she is our head gardener, she will also be available should there be any problems.

Our house is a very energy efficient house, and was certified Passiv-Haus Plus in 2016. We have underfloor heating downstairs and a ducted heating / cooling system running throughout. The extensive solar array we have on the house and the garage enables you to run the air conditioning on a hot, sunny day at minimal cost. The sun shines directly through the bi-fold doors downstairs which heats up the floor tiles keeping the house warm, even when it’s cold outside. We don’t have conventional heating, we have no radiators (apart from a couple of towel radiators in the bathrooms). The heat for the house is generated by the people in it, the appliances being on (like the ovens), and the sun. The house is completely airtight so you will not feel any draughts in the house, we have triple-glazed windows throughout which keeps the warmth in as well as any noise out. Even though we are in close proximity to the A303 road, when you are inside the house the noise is non-existent so you are guaranteed a good night's sleep.

If you are interested in our self-build at all, have a look at our compendium when you arrive as it goes into more detail about the build process, materials and the criteria we had to accomplish to be a certified Passiv-Haus.

Where you’ll be

Hampshire, England, United Kingdom

Weyhill is a small village just outside of Andover in Hampshire. We are located just off the A303 giving you exceptional transport links between London and the west country.

For the food lovers, there is a beautiful Indian Restaurant, The Pink Olive, within walking distance, as well as a Grade II listed pub, The White Horse Inn, in the neighbouring village of Thruxton.

Weyhill is also host to Rosebourne Garden Centre, again within walking distance. Within the garden centre there is an enormous food court, an extensive butchery and deli counter, and also a cafe serving delicious breakfasts, lunches, afternoon tea and scrumptious cakes.

In the neighbouring village of Amport there is The Hawk Conservancy Trust which is a great outing for all the family. There you can see stunning rare birds of prey, owls and see fabulous flying displays.

Our house really is a great location, and you don't need to worry about being close to the A303 as our house has triple glazing so it's quiet and peaceful inside.
