About this listing

Fabulous comfy spacious rural house with tennis court and panoramic views in all directions including Glastonbury Tor and beyond. House is full of light and windows. Private location down 200m drive. Two excellent pools within walking distance.

The space

Traditional pretty stone house with large extension providing very comfortable accommodation for 12 or 14 people. Every room is spacious and filled with light. There are great views from every window. Guests are stepping into a beautiful family home, with everything a house needs to comfortably entertain a large number of people. More than three acres of garden and fields including tennis court. Shed with spare mattresses and table tennis for overspill. The house sits in large elevated plot up a 200 yard drive making it very private. Parking for nine cars in hardcore area. Additional parking in field if dry. This is a private family house rented out during vacations.

Kitchen/dining room - 8.4m x 6m. Very spacious room. Range cooker with two electric ovens, grill and 6-gas burners, larder fridge, huge well-stocked larder (please replace items as they run out), dishwasher, all mod cons, big pans and serving dishes. Wonderful picture window looking out to view which includes Glastonbury Tor. On a good day it's possible to see around 18 miles. Full-size sliding doors out to large terrace which remains cool on very hot days, and further door to sunny front terrace. Both have eating areas.

Large airy hall lined with books and a piano with staircase ascending to gallery.

Drawing room - approx 8m x 4m with fireplace and woodburner. Plenty of sofas. Doors out to verandah and to front terrace.

Study - approached through a bookcase door, this room has two old computers directly linked to the internet. Both have guest accounts open. There is a third desk with sockets and ethernet connection. Back stairs to first floor.

Utility room - Washing machine. Indoor drying line.

Master bedroom - Huge airy room with full panoramic windows and two additional windows. Large bed with zip mattresses. En-suite bathroom with roomy shower and bath. En-suite walk-in cupboard with ample hanging space.

Bedroom 2 - Urban cool wallpapered room with small shower room/loo opposite. Double bed. Walk-in wardrobe.

Bedroom(URL HIDDEN)Light airy rooms - one with double bed and one with twin beds and shared bathroom. Both have good wardrobe space.

Attic bedrooms 5&6 - Two very large and light rooms with adjoining big shower room on top floor. A double and a single bed in each. These could be extended into dormitories with (three) spare mattresses from shed. What can I say about the decor and its state!! . . . Teenage rooms . . . Very teenage/child-friendly decor! An over-ambitious painting project has left paint stains on floor in one of the bedrooms and attic bathroom! Although these are attic rooms they each have high ceilings for about 4m x 4m.They are wonderful, cool and definitely not for grown-up grown-ups! Plenty of hanging space and shelves in both rooms. Cleanliness? We've done our best! Tiny cupboards into eaves are locked with screws to stop the bogeymen coming out of them!

TV room - Smallish hall area (approx 3m x 3.5m) on first floor with old TV, DVD player and battered sofa.

Verandah - Perfect for the evening sun or drizzly days - undercover with perspex roof. Around 7m x 4m. Dining table. Retractable washing line.

Terraces - Whilst most of the outdoor areas have some tables and chairs, these are easily moved to create dining for more people.

Tennis court - Full size court with floodlights for night-time play! Seating/watching area.

Shed - Pretty blue wooden structure with table-tennis and half-size billiards, doggy sofa and spare mattresses. Perfect for sulking teenagers! This room would not pass a cleanliness test, but we use it all the time.

Very good walking from the door.

Up to two dogs welcome in hard-floor areas only (kitchen, hall, utility) - but absolutely not upstairs. Sofa in kitchen must have cover on if dogs present.

Round and about - Lovely outdoor heated pool with sun loungers at local leisure centre about 20 mins walk away. Also squash, gym etc. Local historic town of Langport about 1.5 miles away - two butchers, greengrocer, supermarket, petrol, boutiques, bakeries, doctors, Thai and Indian restaurants, traditional take-aways. Beautiful river walks. Main supermarkets will all deliver - Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda.

Less than an hour by car to famous south coast beaches at Charmouth, Lyme Regis or West Bay, or try the deserted, fossil-rich, unspoilt north somerset pebble beaches at East Quantoxhead and around. Plenty of historic houses in easy reach, including Longleat which also has safari and play areas. Theme parks at Crealy and Brean with water slides, roller coasters etc, both less than an hour's drive.

Guest access

Wonderful huge kitchen, big garden, tennis court, table tennis, half-size billiard table, verandah, terraces, gas or charcoal BBQs. The whole house is yours - two sitting rooms - both with TVs, four bath/shower rooms, 5 loos, it's all yours - enjoy!

Interaction with guests

We rent out the house when we go on holidays. You have complete freedom once we have let you in and wave you good-bye! But we can give you lots of info on the area before we leave.

Other things to note

We are happy to accommodate a couple of dogs as long as they are absolutely restricted to the hard floor areas - kitchen, hall, utility. They are not allowed upstairs.

We do ask that you leave the house more or less how you find it. Timings between lettings can be very tight. Cleaners only really have time to change sheets and give the place a quick vacuum. They don't have time to clean the ovens and fridge etc. If you require extra help with cleaning, please let us know beforehand. We will email you all the details about the house, rubbish collections, walks, directions, using kitchen appliances etc once your booking is confirmed.

We had a great Christmas with all the family in this lovely house. We were given detailed information covering everything before we arrived including details of walks from the house. The kitchen was so well stocked with everything we could possibly want and is a great space to cook and eat with spectacular views. As the weather was so sunny we were able to make use of the tennis court and the table tennis.

Lovely house and location - we had great walks from the house and loads of space for 6 adults and 6 children to do what they liked. The kitchen was particularly good: plenty of space for us to cook and eat and a great view. Given the surprisingly warm weather the floodlit tennis court was a real bonus; evening playing a distinctly continental feel. And the we had several lengthy and complex games of croquet at a more sedate pace during the day. The kids also loved the outdoor pool in the village. And a tremendous selection of books! Everything was as described and we all felt thoroughly relaxed, which is the main idea. With many thanks for great stay.

We are a family of five who love where we live, but occasionally want to go away - and then we rent out our house!
We love Sweden - my mother is Swedish and we try and go every year. We have a small house in the woods near the sea, surrounded by friends and cousins. It's fantastic. Last year we also did a bit of house renting in Switzerland and Italy.
Watch this space for details of our wonderful Swedish house - packs in 10 people - but rather more of a squeeze!
We love Wagamama (Bath), mushrooms, days at the coast, bridge, tennis, Bob Dylan.
The family has very mixed feelings about Dexter and Luther (boys love, girls hate).
We all love comedy - and Glastonbury has a great Wednesday Comedy club.
Everyone thinks Glastonbury Festival is the bee's knees and we are cool to live so close.
