Our beautifully renovated cottage and lodge are the perfect base for exploring the ancient Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. Exposed beams and original stonework are complemented by the homely décor and furnishings providing modern comfort. We are located just outside the picturesque village of Longhope, on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean, & Wye Valley. A perfect place to unwind and relax or explore the Forest and surrounding area, the cottage is ideal for families, couples o small groups.

The space

A 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom converted 17th century stone built grain store barn. It has been tastefully decorated throughout with a home from home cosy feeling. Ground floor entrance leads into the large light and airy living area providing plenty of space to relax and unwind with a wood burner. A fully equipped kitchen including washing machine, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The dining room can easily accommodate up to 6 people round the table. Ground floor large bedroom with a luxurious king size bed leading into the en-suite walk in shower room. With beams in the vaulted ceiling, they frame a handsome, large upstairs twin bedroom, with 2 additional beds to cater for larger families/groups. This leads into the large bathroom area.
Both properties have their own private garden area with table and chairs and the use of a BBQ, along with shared use of a further 7 acres of carefully maintained gardens and pasture. Baynam brook flows through the estate with a large willow tree along the bank creating a very tranquil setting.

Many of our guests return to try each in turn or come back with family and friends. Both the cottage and lodge can be booked together at a reduce cost. The village of Longhope has a wealth of activities including a Cookery School, Battlesports, Clay Pigeon Shooting and visits to our local Brewery. There are castles to explore, trekking, cycling and Go Ape in the ancient Forest of Dean and kayaking down the River Wye.

We are in the perfect location to visit the historic market towns of Ross on Wye and Monmouth, with the City of Gloucester just 10 minutes’ drive away. Slightly further afield are Cheltenham Spa, Bath Cardiff, Bristol and Birmingham.

4* Gold Mill Cottage dates back to the 17th century, built in 1649. It was a grain storage barn for the Parish Mill which is next door, and where we live. The Mill was formerly one of the most important watermills in Gloucestershire and produced flour until the end of 1946. (Parish Mill still retains its waterwheel). We also have two young pet Pygmy goats (Jessie & Rocky) that love to meet to guests. We also have a large separate play area with climbing frame, swings and slide for small and big kids alike.

Tracey's place was fantastically located for the Forest of Dean and the nearby River Wye is in the beautiful town of Monmouth- perfect for canoeing (which we did), kayaking and swimming. The cottage is beautifully done up inside and out with everything you could need- it really felt like home for the weekend. Tracey left us some fresh, local eggs (you totally can taste the difference), local bread and a DELICIOUS victoria sponge cake. I am polishing off the remnants as we speak. The cottage has a little private area outside for BBQs and sitting as well as a large expanse of communal gardens and a field to enjoy. Although the cottage is situated next to the main road, you don't really notice the noise inside the cottage and the surrounding countryside is postcard-perfect. It's also very handy when you need to catch a train from Gloucester which is only 25 mins drive away. For a hearty pub lunch or dinner, would strongly recommend the Red Hart Inn at Blaisdon. They did a cracking roast and their other food looked good too- as well as a selection of guest ales. The surrounding countryside is great for walking/biking.

Wow, I'm not even sure where to start with this review! Suffice to say our expectations were surpassed in every single way! The photos just don't do the property or the surroundings enough justice, it is absolutely spectacular. We were greeted by Tracey, a hugely warm and welcoming host, who had prepared a homemade cake for us and provided some locally brewed ales and ciders - a lovely touch. The house itself is beautifully decorated and very well equipped, there was nothing we could have wanted for during our three night stay. The grounds are staggering and ideal for children with a small play park, baby goats to play with, a bubbling brook and a secret tree swing. My daughter didn't want to leave! I can't recommend this place highly enough. My parents are already planning their return stay. Thank you Tracey!

Tracey's place.... Muddy boys laughing and exploring the gardens and in the stream, happy dog playing with the kids, wonderful house, cup of tea and a a slice of freshly baked cake, laughter from the swing under the willow tree, excitement in the Forest of Dean on your doorstep, excitement to get home relax at "their river!" as the boys called it! Board games and chats in the evening - just a great weekend with a simple, comfortable house and great warm but nonintrusive hosting. Would definitely recommend to families looking to explore the fun of the Forest!

We had an amazing time. Thoughtful extras, including homemade cake as well as towel, bowl etc for our dog made us feel really at home. The gardens were beautiful. A perfect place to relax.

We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was very clean and perfect for a weekend getaway. We went cycling in the Forest of Dean one day which and was great and also checked out a few of the pubs Tracey had recommended. We also really enjoyed Tracey's homemade cake. Overall it was a fantastic weekend and would highly recommend.

Wonderful stay. Very comfortable property, furnished to a very high standard. The setting is great, as it's so near attractions within the Forest of Dean. We had great weather and made good use of the outdoor seating area and BBQ. (The only thing to note is that the property is by a road so you do get traffic noise when sat outside, and if you're sleeping with the windows open you can also hear it in the room. It comfortably hosted 5 adults and would have been fine for 6. Tracey was brilliant. Really helpful and gave us everything we needed. She baked the most amazing cake for us too!! And left milk, bread and eggs for us on arrival which was really thoughtful. The little touches mean a lot!

We were a small group of girls on an outdoorsy hen do and Tracey's cottage could not have been more perfect. The area is great (we really loved popping to see the goats) and we had absolutely everything we needed and more. Tracey was a fantastic host - and a brilliant baker, with a lovely homemade cake waiting for us on arrival. I couldn't recommend staying here more!
