This is Melissa. I read your review. I feel badly that you felt the house was unclean. You didn't mention anything while you were here. We had a professional cleaner come two days before your arrival, who mopped all floors, did bathrooms, kitchen, etc. and I vacuumed and cleaned up again the day of your arrival. I wasn't aware of your concerns. Cleaning is definitely a daily event in the islands.
We try to be very upfront in our listing so there are no surprises. This is an older home on the ocean with some wear and tear. We do have a lot of artifacts around the house. We like to keep all the windows & sliding doors open to enjoy our usual tradewinds. Unfortunately, while you were here, it was the hottest I've ever experienced in Hawaii. Sorry, I couldn't control that.
From our point of view, you hadn't mentioned prior to arrival that you intended to be three people. Again, we are not uptight but like to know who is staying in our home. We have done house exchanges and rentals for decades with people from all over the world successfully. We will mention in future ads that this is the type of place for people who are seasoned travelers. We are not a hotel. It is not a house with AC. It is definitely more exposed to the elements, which we enjoy!
Of course, we want guests to feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. I believe we're in-line with AirBnB's standards, which require clean linens and surface areas. The photos in ad, if you look closely, were much messier than how you received the house. They were taken just as is, when we are at home. We certainly weren't trying to deceive anyone. It is true we recently had a new roof installed and finally ended 2yrs. of construction at next door neighbors, which created some disorder, but the back deck has been as is since photos with the addition of the garden boxes. However, we will certainly take your comments to heart.
Thank you again so much for looking after Philippe, our feral parrot. I hope you enjoyed Honolulu Museum.
Aloha and be well.
