The space

La Terrazza, 2 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, sleeping up to 6 in the oldest part of Podere Patrignone, dating back to the 14th Century.
* 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
* maximum sleeping capacity 5 adults + 1 child
* great for families or 2 couples
* the largest apartment, and the coolest in the summer
* ourdoor patio for al-fresco dining

A sunken terrace (that gives this apartment its name) is your own private outdoor dining area, filled with terracotta pots and climbing honeysuckle. From here you enter the oldest part of the house, with the most beautiful arch dating back to 1440. This is the coolest part of the house in the summer.
La Terrazza has a large dining room, kitchen and sitting room, with huge old beams and furnished with some lovely old oak furniture. If you prefer to eat outside, feel free to use your own little private terrace, or use the grander Terracotta Terrace just a few yards away.
Another arch leads to a large bedroom, which houses antique furniture rescued from an Italian Manor House prior to demolition. It has a magnificent king-size walnut bed with matching wardrobe as well as a small single (suitable for an under-12).
The second bedroom is also uniquely furnished with three single beds or a double and a single, with county-style painted wood. This room is suitable for three kids or adults, or 2 adults plus a child.
Each room has its own en-suite bathroom with shower, w/c and wash-hand basin. La Terrazza backs onto our ivy-covered enclosed courtyard.
This is the first part of the house that was built. Other sections were added one or two rooms at a time as the family prospered or when a son got married (when married, daughters left the household to join the husband's family).
This is the largest apartment we have, and the coolest in the summer, but it has a lovely antique feel that takes you back to the days when the house was built.

Interaction with guests

As much or as little as you want! We live here all year around, so if you need help and advice, we're here to help. If not, we'll leave you in peace.

The neighbourhood

Patrignone is deep in the Tuscan hills, far away from any noise or light pollution. But despite its peaceful setting, Patrignone is right in the middle of Chianti, at the epicentre of Tuscany's cultural treasures, just 10 minutes from the beautiful hill-top town of Castellina in Chianti, with its restaurants, cafés and shops (and a good supermarket). Siena is just 35 minutes away, and Florence 40 minutes in the other direction, San Gimignano is 30 mins away, with Volterra the next town along. You really couldn't pick a more central location.
There's no doubt that you'll need a car while you’re staying with us, both to get here in the first place, and to get the most of Chianti's tiny but beautiful hill-top towns. And if you feel like venturing further afield, within a 1.5-hour drive you'll find white sandy beaches, typically beautiful Italian seaside resorts, dozens of hot springs, and the majesty of the snow-covered Apennines clearly visible from Patrignone's Terracotta Terrace. And if you're into cycling, walking, nature-watching, or ballooning, these activities and more can be easily organised. Just let us know what your interests are, and we'll give you some options.
