Idyllic! The barn and hot tub are in our lovely gardens which have far reaching views over the Somerset countryside. The barn is spacious and has masses of character, fully equipped with everything you need for a self-catering stay. There are two holiday lettings in the barn, Bracken and Bramble. Very romantic! Please note that Airbnb doesn't always calculate short stay prices correctly. There is a minimum stay in July, August and September of one week to stay here.

The space

Bracken is on the ground floor and offers very spacious accommodation for two people. The sitting room has a TV/DVD player as well as a music system and plenty of room for relaxing. There is a large kitchen with a dining table and chairs for 4 people. The kitchen, appliances and equipment are all brand new for 2015. The double bedroom has a king size double bed, wall mounted TV/DVD player and lovely, painted country furniture with plenty of storage space. There are two bathrooms, one with a shower over the bath, the other with a separate shower. All bedding and towels are provided. Outside is a private patio area with garden furniture and BBQ. There is also a hot tub new for 2015 which is for shared use, via a simple rota system.

Bramble is mainly in the loft, although the modern kitchen extension is on the ground floor (new for 2015). It is beautifully fitted out, with new appliances and equipment. Upstairs is a lovely long sitting room in the eaves with sofa, TV/DVD, music system, dining table and chairs, and occasional furniture. There is a well equipped bathroom with toilet, washbasin and bath with shower attachment. The large double bedroom is a delight, with a king size bed, wardrobe, painted chest of drawers and occasional furniture. Outside is a private patio area with garden furniture and BBQ. Also with access to the hot tub.

Each have their own private patio with garden furniture. The hot tub is in it's own private area and is for shared use. There is also a laundry room which can be used on request.

Please note the prices shown per night are for Bramble and are based on a 7 night stay. Shorter breaks have a higher nightly rate. Bracken also has a slightly higher rate as it is quite a bit larger.

I live in the farmhouse opposite and I work fulltime. I come and say hello to guests and am available if needed. Otherwise I leave guests in peace to enjoy their holiday. There are combinations on the doors, so guests are able to arrive and let themselves in.

The village is Compton Dundon up on the hill overlooking the beautiful Somerset countryside. It's rural and quiet and has fantastic walks. We're located between the historic towns of Glastonbury and Somerton, and a short distance from Wells. Although we are rural, we are very close to a large number of interesting places and National Trust properties.

No. Not really! There are occasional buses to the nearest towns but I would recommend that you have a car.

All kitchen appliances/cooking equipment is provided as are bedlinen and towels. There's even a welcome gift!

Guest access

Interaction with guests

Guests are welcomed and introduced to their new surroundings. After that they are left in peace, and we are just on hand to help as when needed.

The property is in a great location for exploring the local area, as we did. We stayed 8 nights and managed to see a lot. It's easy to find and there is parking right outside and close by. There's even space to unpack your luggage right outside the door. It's a very quiet location, just some sheep baaing in the field. You will need a car though there is an hourly bus service to Street and Yeovil from the stop at the main road about 10 minutes' easy walk away. Street is a small town and has the usual facilities, such as a Sainsburys, Lidl, and Clarks Village outlet selling discounted branded goods. The front door leads into the modern kitchen with plenty of storage and all the required utensils and crockery. The fridge holds enough food for a week and there are 2 shelves in the freezer. There are 2 stools here you can sit at to eat breakfast as well. A large roof window lets in lots of light. There is also a seating around for about 6 people outside which is hidden from view. There's no mains water here so a septic tank is used - therefore you can't use anything like bleach, but all suitable cleaning products are provided. A few steps up from the kitchen take you to the lounge (mind your head). Bear in mind it is a pitched roof all the way along the property so anyone over 5'9" ish will need to duck down! The style is comfortable and relaxed, in shades of pale greens and creams. There is a dining table and 2 chairs to your left and a table to the right with lots of information and leaflets on places to see and visit in the local area, along with a hifi system. There is a large chest of drawers for you and a comfy 3 seater sofa with cushions. The TV is a good size and has lots of channels. A door takes you from the lounge to the bathroom. Sink to the right with a shelf above and mirror, toilet and bath with shower attachment on the taps. The bath is at the lowest part of the roof so you can't stand up to shower. Water is very hot, comes through quickly and there is plenty of it. Another door takes you to the spacious bedroom. There is rail space and hangers to the left and a large chest of drawers to the right, with a wicker chair. The bed is low to the floor because of height restrictions but very comfortable. There was a choice of firm and soft pillows. The duvet was warm and spares are in the cupboards in case you get cold! There are bedside lights, ideal for reading. The heating is reliable and warms up quickly though on sunny days the property warms up anyway. The wifi is quick and reliable. We didn't use the hot tub unfortunately - remember to bring swimming...

Had a great stay here for the Easter break. The cottage was lovely and the views were breathtaking. Despite its remote location, it was only a ten minute drive to the nearest supermarket so we didn't go without the essentials (wine), Caroline is a great host and will definitely be staying here again!

Busy! Happy though. When I'm not working, gardening, talking to lovely visitors or seeing my friends, I can be found on a tennis court still thinking I can win Wimbledon.
