About this listing

Schierman Springs is a 40-acre conservation park on the Palouse in Eastern Washington State. Come explore what we consider to be the wild west. There are vast scablands carved out from the glacial lake Missoula floods, rolling hills, local lakes and rivers, and abandoned towns and homesteads. You can see it all from an exclusive central location with shaded lawn camping & fire pit.

The space

The Schierman's have owned this farmstead for 100 years- since 1916. In the last 50 years, it has been transformed from a farm to a sustainable conservation park by owner Tom Schierman and sons, James and Jon. In the comfortable outdoor adventure seasons the farmstead is open for guests and private events. The property is being developed into an exclusive rustic retreat and private campground for group stay, camping, workshops, photography tours, private parties, weddings, reunions, and recreation both on the grounds and around the Palouse.

Guest access

Each group of guests will have exclusive use of Schierman Springs. Only one group will be scheduled at a time. Guests have access to campfire pits, game courts, amphitheater, and BBQ. Tents can be placed in secluded areas around property for maximum privacy. Soon, buildings will be opened up for guest use once remodel is complete. We provide firewood, night lighting, chairs and picnic tables, cooking and eating utensils, garbage cans and recreation amenities.

Interaction with guests

We can give the guests a tour of the property and history of the farmstead and Palouse region if they wish. We will provide firewood, water, ice chests, limited private bus tours, or transportation during your stay if needed when available. We can also provide breakfast, afternoon snacks and beverages, and dinner with herbs and vegetables grown here, and local foods and beverages from the Palouse.

Other things to note

We may be available to host weddings and other private events with camping and campfire for up to 300 guests.

Upcoming development plans: -Remodeling the warehouse and barn for events, workshops, and gathering.
-Remodel the carriage house and bunkhouse for guest stay.
-Remodel the studio loft for guest stay and studio residency
-Provide tiny cabins and bunkhouses for retreats and guest stay.
-Provide sustainable year-round vegetable and herb greenhouse for guest meals, which may also include local and farm-raised chickens, eggs, mushrooms, meat, and fish.
-Provide large permanent restroom and spa area with multiple toilets, indoor and outdoor showers, large baths, hot tub, and lap pool.
-Construct covered indoor/outdoor kitchen with pizza and bread oven, smoker, sink, icebox, bar seating, and large grill.

James and his Dad, Tom were awesome hosts. Tom is the nicest man I've ever met. He was there on check-in and check-out and was a pleasure to talk to. We would love to stay on the beautiful property again. Tom was full of suggestions on where to go and stories from the area. He was a gracious host and you can truly see his love for the property and area. Make sure to look at his photos! They're looking to make improvements for camping and a shower - even a solar shower would have been the nice touch. He let us charge some things in the house as well! James - we took your advice and got some awesome photos of the canola fields!

James and Tom are friendly, hospitable, kind. Their farm is in spectacularly beautiful rolling hills. Everything needed for a simple camping experience are supplied from kindling, fresh water, composting toilet, cute frogs, and bouquets of edible herbs on the picnic table. The hosts are eager to share they lovely space, and open to guests walking around the entire property. They were helpful in giving information about place to visit and sights to see. We would love to return to some time.

James and his father Tom were the most gracious hosts. The property is beautiful and meeting them made it come to life even more. This was a great spot for just the two of us, but it would ideal for a close group of friends too. Thanks Tom and James!

Tom and James were wonderful hosts. We couldn't have asked for a better place to call home while exploring the Palouse. Tom was kind to share fruits and veggies from his garden. It was also a treat to hear him tell the local history. I will definitely visit Schierman Sanctuary again.

I am part of the fourth generation to care for the family farmstead and it's wild inhabitants. I was born on a frigid February evening in the farmhouse on a waterbed, the doctor traveled six miles on black ice with my grandparents close behind to deliver me. I was weighed on the sausage scale and had a heat lamp over my crib to keep me warm. Being artistic and growing up on the farm was and is a magical opportunity to create on the biggest canvas possible, growing and building wildlife habitat, landscaping and gardening for people to enjoy, and creating guest amenities for a rustic retreat and private events venue. I like to have fun and socialize, which is evident from the game courts and recreational games on the farm and the seasonal private parties I host.

Tom Schierman (dad) is a life-long landscape photographer and has taken hundreds of thousands of quality photos of the Palouse region in the past decade, and has built relationships with local land owners to gain access to their scenic land. He has also learned a lot of history from these local friends.
