About this listing

On tiny hidden canyon with 180 view of nature, nestled up against mountains, this is a beautiful retreat. One block from major hiking trails, the only sounds are from the myriad birds welcoming you! Old Pasadena 8 min away.

The space

Queen size Select Comfort bed so you can adjust firmness to your liking (controls to right of bed).

You have a shared (if I have friends over, it's the guest bathroom and I also take baths in there almost daily as it's the only bathtub) modern newly updated bathroom with comfy Kohler tub and shower.

Plenty of room in closet to hang things and/or to store things. Baskets for you to use if you want to unpack your things.

Guest room is set back in such a way that you feel tucked away and private.

Guest access

Both living room and family room have a fireplace. Family room has TV (ATTuverse with HBO/Showtime/etc.) for guest use. I also work in this room, though, so we just need to communicate about when you wish to have it to yourself. Living room is all yours when you are here!

Kitchen is fully equipped because I cook and bake a lot. Vitamix for a morning smoothie...or a milk shake!

Backyard is a perfect place to relax day or night, with an outdoor fireplace and chairs for daytime lounging.

Interaction with guests

I work from home and work long hours, so I need the house to be pretty quiet a lot of the time, but you can do whatever you wish in your room. I also work on the patio and in family room a lot. There are some days that I'm so busy that I can't interact with guests much, but I will always make sure you have what you need. But if you like a very interactive host, this is not a good spot for you.

Also, if you haven't told me I will be asking your arrival ETA because I go to gym, walk dogs and do errands in afternoons/evenings as I catch breaks in my work. I'll totally work around your schedule, but just need a rough ETA.

If you don't like dogs, this is also not a great spot for you. My two small dogs (Coton de Tulear breed - hypo-allergenic!) are super friendly and will love you within about a minute of your arrival. They will also leave you alone and only interact if you wish to, but one guest who bristles at dogs made me realize this house can be uncomfortable if you don't like doggie love or barks.

Other things to note

Long-term guests: Washer/Dryer are just down hall from guest room. Just let me know when you wish to use so I can show you the ropes, and am not washing at same time.

Reservations: I am now requiring that the person making the reservation is actually the person staying here. If I can't read a little about and see a photo of the person who I am expecting to arrive, it just creates a little vulnerability on my end. So, please have your own verified profile.

The pictures are quite good so if there is anything you don't like or find offensive in terms of design, furniture or art, I prefer you not book. Most people love it and are delighted that it is exactly as it appears but one person removing almost everything has me write this just in case!

I keep the house very neat and clean, and expect the kitchen + house to be left as you find it. If you break, nick or scratch something please just let me know.

I always clear half a shelf in the fridge and have a tray for you to put dry goods. Please do not venture into my food without asking.

If you happen to be here on a day that the cleaning ladies are here (every other Friday so not extremely likely), two or three of them descent upon the house in a whirlwind for about three hours so it is neither peaceful not convenient. If you book on a Friday I usually remember to warn. They will need to get in the guest room to do deep cleaning of the room, but you can put things in closet while they are here.

Parking is about 15-20 yards from house but you can drop off and then park.

On this my first AirBnB trip, my Host, Bridget set the bar high. She is a clear communicator, from giving directions & protocols, and then throughout the week of my and her itineraries. She is attentive and accommodating of basic needs, even anticipating some. Her home and gardens are so peaceful, and appointed with a serene yet artful Feng shui. I appreciate Bridget ' s balance of privacy and attentiveness. Her sweet little dogs, Lucy & Tallulah are of the same Zen. Her tips for restaurants are spot on. Bridget is a respectful person and experienced traveler, and understands the traveler away-from-home. I felt the same care for soul and space as being at home. I could not have wished for a finer host.

Bridget is an excellent host. She made me feel welcome and comfortable from the moment of our first communication to the end of my short stay. Her home and backyard are indeed an oasis, a perfect spot for relaxing and recharging from my somewhat-harried travels. If you think you'll like the place from the pictures in the posting, then you surely will. It's even better. The backyard has an up-close view of both the San Gabrial range and a mini-canyon bordering the property, which is filled with birds, trees, and other flora and fauna. The house is super clean and tidy and ready for another photo shoot. The resident dogs, Lucy and Tallulah, are a hoot, almost like a retired mother-daughter circus act. They are sociable and curious, small and odorless. They're most happy to engage, but also willing to back off and leave one be if that is your preference. I almost never write reviews of places I stay, but it was so nice staying here that I feel now as I do when deciding to leave a generous tip at a restaurant. It wouldn't be right to not acknowledge the exceptional experience this way.

Response from Bridget:
Oh my god! First, you are a GREAT writer. Second, not even the hugest of Lucy and Tallulah's fans has so eloquently described hem and nailed the nature of their relationship! Third, wow wow wow you are the best for appreciating every single morsel of this land. We all appreciated you right back! It was a delight having you! And thank you for the cooking and coffee tips! Can't wait to get my Aero! And I already made the egg! So fun and delicious! Thank yooooou Adam!

Staying with Bridget was the most wonderful Airbnb experience I have ever had! Her house was beautiful, inviting, and clean - truly an oasis. And Bridget - there are not enough words to describe how hospitable, friendly, and kind she is. Beyond the quiet room, comfy sleep number bed, and lovely yard, she gave me cookies she had baked, we chatted about life, she made me coffee with tasty almond milk creamer, and she and her two dogs welcomed my little pup into their pack. Thank you Bridget!!

I had a wonderful time staying with Bridget in her Altadena home. The house was very comfortable and clean, just as it appears in the pictures. The house is right up against the mountains, so it has quite the view! She has two small dogs who are very friendly and would sit next to me while I was doing work out on the couch. Bridget was a fantastic host and did a wonderful job making me feel at home. I highly recommend her place for a quiet Altadena getaway!

Words can not describe how amazing my stay was at Bridget's home. I was new to California and just dealt with a messy breakup and the positive energy Bridget's home provided was exactly what I needed. Bridget was a great host who made me feel extremely comfortable and welcomed (I even wrote a blog post about it: this was my first time using Airbnb and I couldn't of asked for a better 1st experience. I feel truly blessed and am grateful to have met Bridget, her adorable pups and to have had such a wonderful place to stay.

I'm a writer and a corporate trainer. I work from home so a peaceful home is key to me. Everyone who visits says they feel it's the oasis I feel it is. I share it with my furry munchkins Lucy and Tallulah, who are incredibly sweet Coton de Tulears, which is a hypo-allergenic breed for those who have allergies. They won't affect your nose, only charm your heart! This is one of those houses that begs visitors. I have lots of parties and dinners, but I keep hearing such great things about airbnb I thought it's a perfect match. When I travel the world I try to stay in B&Bs when I can because it kicks travel up a notch when staying with locals who want to share their worlds.
