This cosy, charming cottage sleeps 2 people. A log burner warms you in winter or in Summer months enjoy relaxing in the delightful garden. Situated in a rural village with 2 pubs between the Lake District & Coast.
With easy access to the Western Lakes & Fells as well as the more popular Lake District towns of Keswick, Windermere and Ambleside as well as the beautiful Solway Coast, Gilcrux is an ideal base to explore Cumbria whatever the weather.

The space
Rose Cottage is a cosy little cottage in the rural village of Gilcrux with one double bedroom, a sofa bed in the lounge for extra guests and a woodburning stove. The cottage has a dining room, bathroom with bath and separate shower and a lovely terraced garden. Situated in easy reach of the beautiful lakes and fells of the Western Lake District and the stunning Solway coast (AONB). Guests can enjoy a pint of real ale with a meal in either of the 2 lovely pubs within metres of the front door or head to the bustling Lake District towns of Cockermouth, (famous for its annual food festival & Georgian Fair) or Keswick, or the coastal towns of Maryport, Silloth or Whitehaven.

Guest access
You will have full use of the cottage and garden. A larger garden is also at the rear of the property with a trampoline (in the warmer months) and slide which can be used by any children. On-street parking is available but off-street parking can be provided on request. One fire pack will be provided to guests with more available for subsequent nights at a cost of £5.00 per fire pack, which can be pre-ordered. The property has one television and wireless internet access (please note that despite our best efforts this can be patchy). Bedding and towels are provided. Electric is included. We have a travel cot if required. We have a garage and will allow guests to store their bikes.

Other things to note
The garden is terraced and is adjacent to our own garden but we have a larger garden at the top which guests are welcome to make use of. We also have a travel cot if required.
We have recently installed a microwave, additional heating in the living room and are currently pursuing options to increase our broadband speed. Plans for the future include underfloor heating in the dining room.
We are able to provide an extra single bed which is stored under the double bed. This can be put up for children when requested.
The stairs in the property would not be suitable for people with mobility difficulties.
Up to a maximum of 2 dogs are welcome to stay in the cottage, the charge is £ 20 for one dog and £30 for two dogs payable on arrival.

Gilcrux, England, United Kingdom

Gilcrux is a lovely village and everyone makes you feel very welcome. Both pubs (The Barn Bistro & The Mason's Arms) are fantastic, serving real ale and delicious meals and only metres from the door. We have a fabulous village hall, church (St Mary's), village green and for children we have a new play park (opened June 2015). There is also a trout farm at the edge of the village (Gilcrux Springs Trout Farm) for visitors to enjoy an afternoon of tranquil fishing.
We enjoy going for local walks as well as getting in the car for the short journey to the coast or to Buttermere.

I arrived in West Cumbria about 20 years ago or so and absolutely love it, especially our lovely little village of Gilcrux. I am a working mum and so never stop running around but if I get the chance I do enjoy reading, gardening and going for walks up the fells, around the lakes, down the country lanes, through the woods or along the beach...bored is not a word we use around here!
