Thank you again Maddy for letting us stay in your lovely apartment! We really loved it. It was in the most perfect location! Thank you also for surprise limoncello, and for all of the amazing advise with regards to restaurants, walking routes and local amenities you gave us. Two of our favourite spots were the 180 degree sunset viewpoint at Riomaggiore, and the coastal blue walk high view point of Corniglia! Thank you for being an amazing host.

If you stay in this apparment for the duration of your stay and have minimal contact with your host, then I'm sure this place will receive 5 stars. The situation discribed below will probably not happen to you but I think it's very telling of the attitude of the host towards her guests. We arrived after a long journey to the beautiful Cinque Terre. Maddy our host was ready waiting for us when we arrived. She informed us rather bluntly that we wouldn't be staying in the apartment we paid for as they were having a plumbing problem caused by the last gustes. I thought blaming an issue on previous guests was unprofessional and wondered in the back of my mind what we would be blamed for after we left?! She told us we would be staying in her BnB up the road. Whilst we were disappointed with this, we understood that things happen and in no way was this our host's fault. We treked our cases further up the hill then up the four flights of stairs to her BnB. What greeted us was a small room, barely big enough for a bed and sideboard with a bathroom at the end of the hall. Naturally we were disappointed with this as what we booked was a large private apartment. I tried to explain to Maddy how we felt about this at the time. She dismissed me saying that 'she has a plumbing problem'. When I asked if we could move into our apartment for following night, she looked taken aback, said she didn't know and would have to ask. She did get back to us to say we could move into the apartment but I felt that she was inconvenienced by this as she said she would have to get her cleaner in. The information, maps, restaurant suggestions given were all useful. We spent the day out and about and returned to move into the apartment. I tried once more to raise with Maddy why we were dissatisfied with our alternative accommodation. Far from being sympathetic or apologetic, she was defensive and dismissive. Begruingly, she said she would ask her husband if we could have a discount. In the end she did give us a €20 discount but I don't feel this was adequate given that we only stayed in the appartment we had chosen for one night. As a final word, this is not to do with the money, but more the attitude of the host. We understand things happen but a sincere apology, an empathtic atttiude and an appreciation of the guests point of view would have gone a long way in making up for the inconience.

Maddy was waiting for me outside the apartment and I was in luck because there was no one staying the day before so I could check in early which was a huge help. She gave me a really useful and comprehensive overview of what to do in Riomaggiore and across the rest of the Cinque Terre. The maps and tips where so helpful especially as I had less than 2 days there and limited time to figure it all out. The apartment was perfect. Really well located a short, flat walk from the station and at the bottom of the hill with a supermarket across the road as well as cafes and restaurants. If you have luggage with you, you will really appreciate not having to drag it up the step hills and steps. There are a few steps inside the apartment but trust me - this is nothing compared to the steps in streets. I'd love to come back and stay here and spend more time in the area.

I had a wonderful stay at Maddy's apartment. I was met in front of the apartment and she took the time to go through everything with me including the trails. I only had a few days but the apartment is in a perfect location, only round the corner from Riomaggiore station in a continuously thriving part of the village. I can't say thank you enough as it gave us a good base to see all the sights that cinque terre had to offer.

Maddy was an excellent host - was easy to communicate with and made us feel very welcome. Apartment was exactly as described. Spacious, clean and a great location. Perfect for a couple to stay in and new double glazed windows (installed part way through our stay) do a great job of blocking out noise from the street.

Ciao James, Thanks for your review. Just wanted to let you know that we finally figured out and fixed the problem regarding Wi-Fi (the phone line was plugged into the wrong jack on the modem). Something that could have been easily fixed even during your stay.

Maddys 1 bedroom apartment was fantastic. Clean. Simple. Spacious. And convenient. Very close to the train tunnel and low on the "hill" of Riomaggiore. Thanks Maddy!

Maddalena's place in Riomaggiore was beyond a great location. It's close to both the train in the marina and is less than five minutes from both by walking. We are easily able to access the rest of the town and any of the restaurants or shops inside. I recommend this location anyway and I would certainly come back if I ever go back to Riomaggiore again.

I am an American expat now living in the 5 Terre. My husband, who was born and raised in Riomaggiore, and I love to travel, listen to music and just enjoy life. He's a retired (early retirement) chef who loves to doodle with his backyard projects and I love to read (when I get the chance) and gardening. We both run the B&B as well as the apartments we rent and love to meet people from all over the world -- we never tire to hear other people experiences. We look forward to meeting you and to making your stay with us a memorable one.
