We are happy for you to chill out and relax in your studio, or you can join us upstairs in our living room, dining room or kitchen.

Because this is our home you will see us come and go about the house. We have our 2 sons aged 11 and 13 with us - but they are well behaved! You probably won't see much of them as their bedrooms are on the top floor and they are busy with school, homework, after school sports and their mates.

We are LGBT friendly :-)

The neighbourhood

Mt Vic is located 5 minutes walk from the CBD or from Oriental Parade which is lovely to walk around and offers great views of the city. Mt Vic itself is great to walk or run around as it offers off road trails or walk ways and you can easily walk (about 25 minutes) or catch a bus to the summit, which gives great views of the city including down towards the south island.

We are close to the city centre and within 5-7 minutes you can be in bars, pubs, restaurants or at the cinema, Te Papa (national museum) or the shops. If you are heading to the stadium it's a 3km walk around the waterfront although many buses will take you there.

Mount Victoria is a prominent feature of the Wellington landscape providing a natural backdrop and skyline to the east of the central city.
The summit offers spectacular panoramic 360-degree views of Wellington city, the harbour and the hills to the west of the city.

Getting around

Getting around is very easy and you do not need a car. You do not need a rental car when you stay here.

There is no off-street parking at our home but there is plenty of on street parking in the streets around our home. You should not park in residential parking (marked by yellow lines). You can park in coupon parking (marked with white lines). During the working week, you must pay for this type of parking if you plan to stay longer than two hours during working hours. Coupons can be purchased from the store on the corner of Roxburgh and Hawker Streets. Coupons cost $7.50. Parking can be harder to find later in the day.

Taxis are plentiful if you want one, and we suggest you have the Uber app on your smartphone as an alternative.

Our house is 1 minute from the local bus route and a 5 minute walk will take you to Courtenay Place which is where many buses travel through, including the 'Airport Flyer' which goes to/from Wellington Airport. We have bus timetables for you to take with you should you need.

Very comfortable self contained flat under Ian and Ginnis house which is in a fabulous location to get around. Had so many options for restaurants, bars etc, shops close by also. Everything in walking distance and a must is the Anzac exhibition at Te Papa Museum. Ian and Ginninwere fabulous hosts, very welcoming, friendly and full of information and advise. Flat had everything you would need for a comfortable stay.

I stayed with my husband two nights at Ian's and Ginni's place and we left planning to go back soon. The studio is lovely with everything you need and more such as a complimentary wine and amenities. The house is located near the city centre and all the attractions. Since we didn't have much time, we did all that Ian and Ginni recommended and we had an amazing day. We particularly loved Slim Jack's and Ortega restaurant just a short walk from the house. If you are going to Wellington, stay with Ian and Ginni!

What an awesome family ! We were warmly welcomed at arrival and given lots of useful information. We felt relaxed and in a safe place right away. The studio apartment has everything you would need it was just like being home. Ian, Ginni the boys and the cat are very considerate hosts. Everything seems to be so close by. My teenage daughter and I strolled the streets early mornings and late at night no need for public transport. In under 10 minutes walk you have access to many things to see and do. We had a lovely time in Wellington and can recommend Ian and Ginni's place they have paid close attention to detail and thought carefully about their guests comfort. We look forward to coming back !

This place is outstandingly nice. Our hosts were very nice and friendly and responded on each message right away... We felt really like home, the flat is big, very well equipped, TV and WiFi worked perfectly, toast and other breakfast was kindly provided, and everything else you need is there. There are serveral bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance. A real great hideaway close to the city center of Wellington. Many things to mention such like a very compfi bed, high-modern stuff like touchlights, towelheater and many more things let us even more enjoy our stay!

Ian and Ginni's studio is fantastic. I stayed there with my son for a boys weekend away and this place had everything we could ever need or want for that matter. Downstairs under an lovely old villa, the bifold doors fully open up to its own sunny sheltered courtyard with a deck and outdoor lounge furniture ( and resident friendly cat - Katie ). Inside is a very well appointed kitchen which Ian and Ginni had stocked with fresh bread, spreads, cereals, variety of fresh fruit and even some beer, wine and juice, milk ... the list goes on. Not to mention a Nespresso machine, which was a life saver. Comfy couch and flat screen TV with Sky sports, movies etc. Stereo, Wifi, a swag of brochures on Wellington and NZ. It was cold when we were down, but theres a heat pump, wall heater and an electric blanket to keep you cosy. We felt at home from the moment we arrived, towels on the heated towel rail, panel heater and table lamp on. The Studio Information folder had a personalised introductory letter welcoming us and giving us all the relevant information we could need for our stay. Ian and Ginni are lovely hosts and give you and little or as much contact as you want and would text us to keep us informed of anything relevant. Their place is in a fantastic location, especially for the traveller with no car. The Airport flyer bus stops in Courtney Place, which leaves about a 500m walk to their place. A 5 minute walk takes you to the supermarket, Wellington waterfront, great local cafes and bars, and another 5 minutes gets you to Te Papa. We were there for the best part of three days and only needed to take public transport once, which was a $3 bus ride to the Zoo. I can't speak highly enough about Ian and Ginni , and their lovely studio apartment. If you are planning a stay in Wellington, this place should be top of you list. We will definitely be back :-)

Ian + Ginni User ProfileIan + Ginni is a superhost.

We enjoy travelling and have lived in London & Colorado (USA), plus travelled throughout Europe, Australia, the Pacific Islands, North, Central and South America.

We work as a lawyer and investigator in the CBD, however we have recently purchased an 1890 house in Mt Victoria, Wellington with our 2 sons aged 10 & 13, and have decided to embrace the AirBNB experience and open up our home to travellers.

We have both lived in various parts of New Zealand with Ian's work as a lawyer and Ginni previously working as a winemaker/viticulturist so we can pass onto you our experiences. We look forward to hosting you!
