This welcoming, rustic & cosy cottage overlooks Fryup & stands in the broad sweep of the landscape, where moorland meets farmland. Guests stay in the low roofed field-house adjacent to the owner's home; (private entrances, see photo). It is "off grid" but a generator supplies power whilst hot water is provided by the multi-fuel stove. Bring wellies, & jumpers! An ideal place for those who like to listen to the cry of the curlew and watch stars at night.

Fay's cottage is perfect if you are looking for a secluded holiday in a beautiful location. The cottage is "off-grid" enough that you could convince yourself that you are on some sort of adventure but there are enough mod cons (inc generator and wifi) to ensure that there in no risk of actual discomfort. Fay is a wonderful host, who greeted us with fresh scones and made us feel completely welcome from start to finish.

Response from Fay:
Thanks very much, Jo, for your very kind feedback, it was great to have you all to stay, thank you for leaving the place so clean and tidy and hope to see you again in the future.

The cottage is in the most spectacular location and is very cosy. Fay is a generous and warm host. This is a great base for Moor walks and contemplation.

When you arrive somewhere and find bath sheets instead of silly little bath towels, you know your host genuinely cares. It's a small thing in the scheme of things, but it matters. Once we'd got the hang of everything we settled in quickly and had a lovely break. Fay's place is as good for seaside lovers as it is for walkers, being so close to Whitby, Staithes and Runswick Bay. It's also great if you love animals, which we do. We always miss our own pets when we're away but we didn't really have a chance to because there were so many on tap! Fay is utterly charming, as is her property. If you want somewhere to get away from it all and just relax, I can't think of anywhere better.

Response from Fay:
thank you very much, Sue, for your great review, it was lovely to meet you both & I'll certainly address the issue you kindly raised. Look forward to seeing you again in the future.

I have lived and worked on the Moors, and by this coast, since the 1970s and on returning home from work every day, I never fail to feel very lucky to live where I do.
Summers here are lovely; clear, warm and still, and winters can be fantastically snowy. It can be windy but whatever the weather, nothing bad lasts long.
I like: being outdoors; pottering ineffectively in the garden; dogs; solitude and company; music; travelling at home and overseas and hearing of travellers' tales. I very much look forward to meeting you and hearing of your own journeyings be they local, in your imagination or in wildly exotic locations.
