The space
Please be so kind as to read the entire description below, as most questions are answered there. The Dome hosts 2 guests and no children or pets, no tent or camp site, no exception.
The Dome comes complete with everything you need for a nice relaxing West Texas getaway!
Inside, you will find a kitchenette equipped with a small dining table and chairs, a full size refrigerator with a freezer compartment, a microwave, a toaster, a Keurig coffee maker, plates, cutlery, and glassware. We happily provide organic coffee pods for the coffee machine too.
The queen size bed overlooks the stunning desert views and comes with big pillows, comforter, sheets, and extra blanket. For the extra hot summer days, feel cooler with a mini-split AC unit. For your convenience, we have also added a toilet inside, which is partially separated from the rest of the open floor plan by a lovely bamboo wall and a thick curtain. We recommend sleeping with the view, but if you’d rather enjoy more darkness, or wanted to control the temperature during the day, there is a large curtain wrapping around the giant bay window. Please note, the wood burning stove is decorative and cannot be used!
A friendly reminder to all our guests, though the Dome panoramic window is made of high-quality PVC, it is not glass and as such will not be as perfectly transparent. Remember, the desert is best enjoyed outside!
Outside The Dome, enjoy some breathtaking stargazing on two comfortable chairs up on the 8ft high wooden deck, or relax on two floating-sensation hammocks.
Downstairs, you will enjoy a shaded private lounge area with a hanging swing, a bar top with two seating swings, and an outdoor hot shower for two. To make your suitcase lighter, we have left for you organic soap and shampoo that you are invited to use. For some amazing food experience, you can use the charcoal BBQ on site (simply bring your own charcoal).
Designed as a true off-grid destination, The Dome’s electrical amenities function thanks to solar power. Being dependent on Mother Nature means that sometimes, if the weather is stormy or cloudy, the solar system could stop proving electricity if the batteries weren’t fully charged. In that effect, a generator has also been installed to back up the system. In case of really bad weather, there could be no power at all and therefore all amenities requiring electricity won’t work. . In case of high winds, the outdoor showers and hot water might not be functioning as the wind could cause the pilot light to go out.
During the hot summer days, please keep the ac unit set at 72 or above, as it might otherwise overcharge or drain the solar system, leaving the entire property without power until the next day.
As a backup for our guests, you can use the full bathhouse at the lodge for a small fee payable on site (either at the front desk of the ranch HQ or inside the bathhouse). The Lodge is located 16 miles away.
Guest access
Guests can access the Terlingua Ranch Lodge Pool with the code #179852. There is also a café, bathrooms, and washer and dryer available at the Terlingua Lodge, about 16 miles from The Dome.
The Terlingua Ghost Town and Study Butte are about 20 miles heading south on 118, and the entrance of Big Bend National Park is about 30 miles from The Dome heading south on 118.
During rainy season, we recommend driving a 4WD car, as when we get rain the terrain can get quite muddy and difficult to navigate in the entire Big Bend Area.
Other things to note
There are two domes on this property. Each dome has its own amenities and will not be shared with other guests. To check availability or booking info for the neighbor dome, please message us.
Please keep in mind the cancellation policy for this property is set on strict. It means we do not issue refunds beyond what is set by Airbnb Strict cancellation policy, and we do not make exceptions. We are not responsible for the weather, car trouble, change of heart, pandemics, or any other unforeseen event making guests wish to cancel. Thank you for your understanding :)
Some simple rules:
There is no firearm discharging allowed on the property.
We kindly ask that upon leaving, you put everything back where you found it and bring your trash to the dumpster at the entrance of the property.
The Ranch and its surroundings are a Dark Sky Community and the 4th darkest sky in the US. This is why we get such great views of the Milky Way at night. Please be mindful and keep lights and noise to a minimum at night.
Every property around us and in the area is privately owned. Be mindful of our neighbors and don’t wander off onto their properties, even if it just looks like abandoned desert!
