Restoration of 16th Century Kilmartin Castle was completed in 2019. We felt it important to retain the genuine character of this special building whilst creating an inviting space. Located within the ancient landscape of Kilmartin Glen surrounded by 8,000 years of history. Standing stones, ancient forts, burial tombs, & ancient rock carvings make this Glen one of Europe's most important areas, archeologically. Not on the typical tourist route, this is a true slice of genuine unspoiled Scotland.

The space
When we travelled around Scotland in 2014 we were disappointed that we couldn't find a castle to stay in that 'felt like a castle' once inside. We found a castle that had dodged the Victorian home improvement brigade, quit our sensible jobs, and set about creating the experience for visitors that we had hoped for. Plasterboard and down lighters became the new enemy of Kilmartin Castle!

All five en-suite bedrooms have been individually designed to retain the rustic magic of a 16th Century castle while spoiling you with the comforts of modern living including underfloor heating, walk-in wet rooms in turrets, copper baths and of course, luxury bedding.

Our kitchen was designed with sociability in mind and is a great space to cook as a group. It is fully equipped with 2 ovens, large induction hob, a large fridge freezer, all the pots and pans you could need and lots of cookbooks for added inspiration.

Our dining room, with it's original stone barrel vaulted ceiling is the perfect place to enjoy a medieval feast. Our private chef would be happy to cook dinner if you fancy the night off. She also does a fantastic breakfast/brunch.

The grand hall is the heart of the castle and a place to share stories around the fire in the evenings.

There are a number of nooks, window seats and comfy corners throughout the castle for a little privacy and a good read.

We have a large garden table, bbq and fire outside to al fresco dining.

WiFi: We have a fast fibre optic broadband connection at the castle and 6 routers placed throughout, which automatically reconnect as you walk through the building. We understand that a lot of people like to be disconnected whilst travelling but at the same time it's nice to have the option and to be able to watch Netflix on an iPad if you choose to do so.

Although we don't advertise as a wedding venue, Kilmartin Castle is the perfect place for a small elopement. We have an incredible florist in the village as well as a photographer and some brilliant chefs. The great thing about Scotland being that you can say 'I do' anywhere, as we did in the castle garden back in 2016.

Kilmartin Glen has the largest number of historical finds within a six mile radius in all of Scotland. You can set off on amazing walks from the front door. We often describe it as an outdoor museum. Kilmartin Village has a great community vibe, an award winning museum / café and gift shop and a local pub serving real ales, Scottish single malts and great dinner, only a 3 minute walk away.

We both fell head over heels in love with Scotland whilst on a road trip in 2014. Kilmartin was, by far, our favourite Scottish village! So, when Kilmartin Castle went up for sale, a few weeks after our holiday ended, we couldn't resist starting a new adventure. We sold all our worldly possessions and bought it. Simon was a Creative Director and I was a Travel Journalist & Radio Broadcaster. We spent 6 months renovating Kilmartin Castle in 2019 and now we are very excited to share it with you!

We live at the castle with our super friendly cat, King Frank, whilst offering bed and breakfast and when the castle is booked for exclusive use all three of us head off travelling in our campervan.

Well behaved dogs, and cats are welcome at Kilmartin Castle.
