In the Biological Reserve Caoba you will be sleeping in very confortable and unique tree house built on a mango tree overlooking the river. You will be staying in a place full of peace and nature, hearing the sound of the water all the time, having the possibility to swim in a pristine river, see butterflies and hummingbirds, walk on ancient indigenous stoned paths, eat healthy and first and foremost relax far away from the tourist track.
The property you will be staying in is a biological reserve in the tropical forest of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The property was purchased 18 years ago by a German/ Colombian biologist couple with the purpose of reforesting the almost 32 hectares. Now we don’t need to reforest anymore, but sustain this magical place. Everything here has been built bit by bit with effort and love for nature and creativity. From a labyrinth of medicinal plants with a meditation fountain and Coi carps in the middle, to a collection of palms, trees, pineapples and water plants, from ancient indigenous stoned paths to indigenous Houses and a museum, from our macaw project to feeding Amazonian fish and last but not least: our pristine river. It’s a place not just to relax, but also to explore and learn. Staying with us is not “just” the accommodation, but experiencing the entire place. The tree house you will be staying in is on a mango tree with a balcony overlooking the river and forest.
When staying with us you have access to the entire reserve, where you can visit the animals, stroll or find a nice spot to do yoga or meditate. We have also the best natural pool in the region.
Interaction with guests
In the reserve there will be always someone if needed.
We are a private and family owned natural reserve and we always look forward to welcome guests from all over the world, who are interested in spending some time in the nature and relaxing. Just having a pleasant and good time with us. Feel free to see how we do our home bread in our clay oven =)
Other things to note
In the property you will be able to see how Caimans and the biggest amazonian fish (arapaima gigas) are fed. If you wish you can book beforehand a small introduction into medicinal and edible plants.
Also: It is important for you to know the cellphone reception is very bad. Nowadays, we consider this to be one of our attractions.
Dont forget your camera. you will use it very often!!! Bring trekking shoes or shoes for trekking bring also your bathing suit.
Please be aware, we are located 11 km away from Santa Marta only access with an off road, therefore driving to Santa Marta can take sometimes up to 1 hr.
Please be aware, you will be sleeping on a tree, therefore we dont recommend to eat and store food in the room, to avoid unwelcome guests. You are welcome to store it in the restaurant.

As a traveler: Traveling and enjoying nature is one of my passions. I have lived in many different places and always been open to new things and people. Another passion is food: cooking and eating.
Through Airbnb I have found one of the best ways to travel outside the tourist road and giving me the feeling to be at home in new place.
As a host: it's interesting and exciting meeting new people from different countries and even better to be able to show my guests the beautiful side of the Colombian nature. I am unbelievably grateful for the guests I have had the possibility to meet and connect with. Welcome to my little paradise.
