The space

Katie and I own a stunning, luxurious Guest House / Bed and Breakfast or Self Catering cottage in the rural heart of the North West Scottish Highlands.

We invite you to stay for a couple of days, a weekend, a week or longer in one of our beautifully furnished double / twin bedrooms or alternatively use the property for a self-catering break from a minimum of three days and for up to eight guests.

We have a lovely home in an idyllic location. Our cottage is at the top of the valley of Inverailort (Lochailort). We are surrounded by mountains and have a lovely stream flowing past at the bottom of our garden.

The sea is just a short 10 minute walk away (2 minute drive) and geographically - we are extremely well placed for day excursions being located at the three-way intersection which offers you easy access to Fort William, Mallaig, Roshven / Glenuig, Kinlochmoidart, Acharachle, Ardnamurchan, Arisaig, Glencoe, Loch Lomond, Inverness, Loch Ness, Skye, and the Outer Isles. Each journey being full of the hidden gems of Scottish beauty and the most beautiful scenery.

The ‘Harry Potter’ Jacobite steam train literally passes our home four times a day during the summer months and is an amazing sight when viewed from just a few metres away.

There is so much to do in the area - aside from sightseeing, why not take a boat trip to the amazing Knoydart or the outer Islands of Rhum, Canna, Muck, Skye, and Eigg?

Alternately you can hire our kayaks in two hour time slots for some local freshwater loch exploration (sea water also possible - ask for details).

We now also have five bikes that can be rented for the day or half day if you prefer to stay local and get some exercise!.

Walk along the beautiful 'silver sands' at Morar or play a nine-hole round of golf at Traigh - quite possibly one of the most stunning golf settings in Scotland.

Take a day trip on the Jacobite Steam train from Fort William to Mallaig and experience the Harry Potter viaduct at Glenfinnan and some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

If you like hiking or hill walking there can be no better place to get out and about - our local mountains and well trodden trails offer some spectacular scenery - with beauty unfolding before your eyes with every step you take. Ask about some of the less well journeyed local hikes that provide some beautiful hidden secrets..!

Our house has four letting bedrooms - each is very tastefully renovated in French Renaissance style with traditional period furniture and every care has been taken to ensure your maximum comfort.

We have three luxurious double bedrooms each with their own wash hand basins, plus one very elegant twin bedded or single room.

We have a newly refurbished shower room in a modern / contemporary style, and a newly refurbished bathroom in a ‘traditional period finish’ with a modern twist!

Please see our other listings for the self-catering information where you will have your own access to both kitchen and dining room areas and the facilities therein..

The house is clad in half-round logs and is finished in a 'rustic Scandinavian cabin effect, with surrounding decking and a decked terrace overlooking the burn, (which is also accessed from the French doors in the living room and is a beautiful place to enjoy afternoon tea on a nice sunny day).

We have an adjacent 'spa' cabin at the end of the property which houses a six-seat Jacuzzi hot tub and 6-8 seat sauna – an ideal way to relax after a hard day in the Highlands! There is a cold ‘douche’ style shower located in between the two. There is an additional charge for the use of this facility in order to help towards the upkeep, energy and maintenance costs, plus laundering of the spa towels etc.

Well behaved / trained pets are welcome but unfortunately can not permitted inside the house or bedrooms for hygiene and sanitary purposes.

We have a strict no-smoking policy please anywhere inside the house. Smokers are very welcome to make use of our outdoor work shed for smoking if the weather is inclement.

All guests are welcome to make use of the dining room, conservatory, , bathroom or shower room and living room with large 8-seater sofa and fire.

We have Free-view television with a good quality surround sound system plus are a large number of DVD'S and music C.D's available to use, in addition to numerous books, travel guides, maps and games for guests to take advantage of if desired.

We have complimentary high-speed wireless Internet available for those who need to keep in touch with the 21st century..!

We own two Springer Spaniel / Labrador dogs that keep a low profile and who are well trained, know their place and not the sort to be jumping all over people! We also keep chickens (fresh organic eggs for breakfast!) and grow our own vegetables in our poly-tunnel throughout the summer season.

Two and three course dinner menus are available for those who might prefer to eat in. We use the freshest ingredients (our own where possible and if not - sourced locally as much as we can). We will try and remember to send you the menu of the week as close to your arrival as we can. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in having any dinners with us as we are 27 miles from the nearest shops and therefore need to plan in advance.

Finally - a brief insight into our background so you can be assured we have some depth of experience to take care of you.............I, (Gary), have spent some 20 plus years in the Catering Industry - providing all aspects of catering up to and including for various members of the Royal Family. In addition - I have spent around 15 years renovating property for high profile clients in London, France and Australia.

My wife Katie is from Poland and has a Masters Degree in Business Administration and has previously spent over five years managing our Property Rentals portfolio in London. She is also an excellent cook! We married in August 2010 and following our wedding we decided to re-locate back to my homeland where I grew up as a child and begin a new chapter of our lives together.

Katie gave birth to our beautiful daughter Maia on 25th February 2012 - our latest addition to the Mo-Dhachaidh family. She is the most adorable, delightful young girl and sure to melt your heart :-) Our latest addition is Eoin (pronounced Owen) - born in February 2015. He is very cute too!

We love to take care of new friends and look forward to meeting you here one day.

Guest access

Guests booking for Bed and Breakfast unfortunately cannot have access to the kitchen or kitchen facilities as we need to use these for preparing dinners and breakfasts. Also we have limited fridge space to store food so if you were thinking to bring your own we would recommend taking a cool box with you.

Interaction with guests

One of us is usually on hand to give you advice on where to go, what to do and see, but we will always try and respect your need for privacy and not talk too much :-)

House Rules

Strictly no smoking anywhere inside the house please and we respectfully request all guests to remove their boots or shoes at the front porch and use our complimentary slippers throughout their stay. Our aim is to preserve the luxury bedroom carpets and wood flooring throughout for as long as possible for everyone to enjoy.

Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund plus service fees back.

One of the best stays I have ever had! Gary and Katie were superb hosts - making us feel so welcome even before we arrived with their personal and helpful emails. They were so amazing and helped in planning our daily trips out, with directions and tips and even packed lunches for our trip up Ben Nevis! The breakfast was out of this world and I would tell everyone and anyone to defiantly take them up on their dinner offer and the spa! Well worth the money. Extremely generous portions made up mostly of items from their own garden and the rest local produce cooked to perfection! The spa was amazing and definatly needed after our trip up the Ben! An hour of complete bliss and escapism. I feel it is also worth mentioning that Gary and Katie organised all timings completely around us - from breakfast at the crack of dawn to a spa session at past 10pm at night. They made our stay so special - as well as being the first people to congratulate us on our engagement, which happened atop of the summit of Ben Nevis! Thank you so much, we will defiantly be back!

Gary and Katie made sure we had a great weekend break. Their home is tucked away in a little village but brilliantly located for exploring. They couldn't have been more helpful. Gary has some lovely wines you can buy and they made us a great packed lunch for our canoeing day on the loch.

Gary and Kate are very friendly and pleasant people, they are trying to do everything to make your accomodation as much comfortable as possible. It is worth to use Gary's advice about hiking pathways at these scenic places, he knows a lot of terrific routes and local stories applying to them (for instance, ask him about the Morag). Location of the house is absolutely great. Be very careful about weather forecast, because when going wet you'll get a problem with drying your clothes and shoes. Also water at the house temporary can become brown with a touch of "soil" (how Gary says). So, if you cares about clarity of drinking water, you have to take some amount of bottled water with you.

Response from Gary & Katie:
Thanks Denys for your feedback and warm comments. Much appreciated :-) Just for the clarity of other potential guests who may be reading this - yes during certain times of the year and after recent heavy rains we do have s light tint to the water. This is a staining from the peat and it does not affect the safeness or purity of the water in any way and it is perfectly healthy to drink :-) Also we do have options for drying clothes - we need to as we do a lot of laundry !! Soaking wet shoes or boots will however take longer to dry as you might expect.. We hope our 'passing showers' does not deter you from returning again to our beautiful Highlands :-)

We had an excellent two night stay here, and Gary and Katie could not have been more welcoming. The breakfast was delicious, and the pot of tea when we arrived after a long drive was just what we needed. The surrounding area is beautiful - we went for dinner at the nearby Lochailort Inn, then went for a walk as the sun went down and were rewarded with amazing photo opportunities of the sunset over the water. Lovely family (and lovely dogs!), lovely area and lovely house. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Thank you very much Andrea for the lovely comments and feedback in general. We really appreciate you taking the time and trouble - especially as your visit was so short and pre-determined somewhat by the wedding arrangements.. Hope you will be able to make it back here sometime and stay a bit longer. Warm regards, Gary and Katie

We were immediately made to feel very welcome by Gary. He found out that we wanted some exercise and to see some beaches and lent us maps and pointed us to a couple of very appropriate walks. It was so nice to be able to borrow DVDs and watch them in the evenings. He gave us a huge choice for breakfasts and each meal was beautifully presented. He took the trouble to book us into his recommended restaurant the following evening. He also took the trouble to share with us some of his life experiences and to introduce us to his family.

Thank you both very much for choosing to stay here and for the great feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to write a review. Very pleased that you liked our home and our food :-) Hope to see you both again in the future and really appreciate your suggestion regarding the midges! We will definitely look into that. Warm regards, Gary, Katie and family

Katie and I have left the city life behind us in 2010 to pursue a more relaxed and calm lifestyle here in rural Scotland where I grew up.

It has been a total change for us after living for 7 years together in a cramped attic room in North London. Although we sometimes miss the hustle and bustle a big city brings, there is simply nothing that compensates more than when we look out of our windows and see the beautiful scenery here.

The mountains are majestic and powerful. The air is clean and on a clear night the skies are heavenly! The water is pure and organic - as it should be...

We love to travel and have seen a lot of the world, but equally - we love to be hosts and pride ourselves on being very attentive to our guests needs.

We wish everyone who comes to our home a very warm welcome, a pleasant and happy stay, and a safe onward journey...
