once again Abel was helpful and informative, including lending us a battery charger when our vehicle broke down. the retro styling of the gite is a pleasant and relaxing escape from usual daily life. we will return!

Abel made us feel very welcome from the outset-we were running late in arriving and he rang to give us directions- Abel is a school teacher, very intelligent and humble at the same time, giving us the space we needed for this well earned break as well as being immediately available if required. Most of the building he has designed and built by hand, and as a materials engineering teacher you will see his signature handicraft everywhere-true to the locality whhch has a long and deep history linked to the first world wall there are also historical features in the house-there is an oven, a log burner in the kitchen, electric heaters (not required) and good ventilation throughout-the pictures are well taken and represent the property properly. The nearest baker is about 5km and the nearest supermarket about 8km but ample refrigeration to keep stuff you have brought yourself-nearby is a vineyard that sells the local wine Auxerroi which is simply fantastic-there is a barbecue in the garden and Abel knows the areas and its main spots extremely well, including a nearby lake to swim in, more touristy spots and which castles to visit and woods in which to walk-there is a lovely mixture of bright string sun and light cool breeze which means a suntan without overheating. if you are allergic to bright mornings there are light tight shutters throughout-Ask Abel about his period tractors and motorbikes and vintage car-he also has another property in the next village but this one is on his doorstep. He is happy to share his wifi for this who really can't cut the apron ties from work but it's actually much faster to have a local SIM card or use your roaming tariff instead.

a very warm welcome with full tour. easy parking and a quiet relaxing garden. a nice village with shop, restaurant and butchers. pleasant walks near by. if anyone needs to get up during the night, be warned the stairs are very creaky!

Abel's place is situated in a lovely small French village, with only one restaurant and a butcher. But no worries, a mobile bakery drives by (almost) every morning and a supermarket (Colruyt) is only a 10-minute drive away. A lot of beautiful walks in the forest can be done starting from the house. The house itself has a nice garden (we were lucky to have a lot of sun and were able to eat outside). Inside there is a massive amount of 'brocante' decoration, a hobby of Abel. There's always something new to discover. The beds are good and there are shutters to make it very dark. It is situated in a small street, so it's very quiet also. The Lac de Madine is very close, and also a lot of 14-18 war sites, which can be visited when going for walks in the forests. Metz is a 45 minutes-drive away.
