Costes is the name of our small farm just above the village of Ortisei or St. Ulrich in the Val Gardena at an altitude of 1650 metres.
The apartment takes up the entire ground floor (80 mq); simple, bright and friendly, and will accomodate two people

The space

The actual site of the farm exists since over 200 years ago, but Costes today is a recent construction made of stone, wood and glass.
It was important to us to have both the exterior and interior harmonize with the surroundings and the environment. We asked ourselves: What type of layout is essential, how much space do we need? Which choice of materials and which design really makes sense? What makes life pleasant and enjoyable?
Stone, wood and glass
The apartment is fully furnished; simple, bright and friendly.
There´s a living room with an open kitchen, a bedroom, bathroom and a small entrance area, and an outside sauna. Inside, there´s nothing between you, the balcony and the mountains but the glass front.
All the floorboards are solid Cembra pine, spruce or larch wood; the interior walls are also wood-panelled, which gives a warm touch to it and a very characteristic smell.
No matter how cold it gets ountside - the large central soapstone fireplace always keeps everyone warm.

Interaction with guests

Things not to worry about
We will provide you with beddings, towels, organic shower-gel/shampoo/soap (we want to keep our biological sewage treatment system happy). Also oil, vinegar, some basic herbs and spices for cooking, and everything you need for a decent breakfast.
There is Radio and a CD-player, but no television. Sauna is available.
We will supply you with fresh bread and the desired newspaper. You will be picked up and dropped off on arrival and departure; we will help with the baggage, and make sure the fireplace and sauna are warm in winter.

Other things to note

Costes itself is quite remote. Nothing but sky and mountains; the trees, the slopes, the mountain meadows.
The farm is accessible via a forest path in summer, or in winter by foot (15-20 mins) or skis.
Nonetheless, the village with whatever you might need is just down the road, and to go hiking, mountaineering or skiing you can set off straight from Maso Costes.

Probably our favourite air bnb we have stayed in. A beautiful spot away from the rush where you can truly relax. Evelyn and Andreas were so helpful even finding somewhere my husband can rent a bike from. I don't want to ruin the surprises but this is a very special place in a magical location!

Wonderful experience in the Dolomites. Beautiful home with lots of great touches, very comfortable and relaxed. Great balcony to watch the changing weather unfold. Easy to walk from the back door right up into the mountains. This is a perfect spot to get away from it all. In nearby Ortesei we were able to arrange to climb a Via Ferrata with Catores, which was incredible. Andreas and Evelyn are very friendly, and kind hosts. They picked us up from Ortesei bus stop (came by train from London via Bolzano!) and drove us to the town if we needed anything. A very tranquil, lovely experience - thank you. We would love to return one day in the snow.

I have to start by saying this was the best airbnb experience I have had. The location and the host are truly magical, even though we only visited for a couple of day we were able to fully relax and engage in the incredible surrounding and environment. After being meet by Andreas, it is a short walk through the forest, something out of a fairytale, you arrive at the house where Evelyn awaits with everything you could possibly need from fresh towels to the perfect breakfast. Set away from any other residences, yet still within easy reach of local amenities, in a large and private valley with views of the surrounding mountains and woodlands sits the house which is a masterclass in alpine modernism. Simplicity and refinement at its best yet still with all the comforts one would need. We spent perfect mornings drinking fresh coffee on the balcony as the sun breaks through the large glass facade to views that are out of a dream. Then with the help of excellent directions from Evelyn and Andreas the day was spent exploring the high alpine passes directly accessible from the house. We would then return to the house to watch the the ever changing and spectacular panoramas. The sun slowly slides behind the forest as the valley falls into moonlight as we sit by the wood burning fire to read and think. I couldn't recommend this place more, my only hesitation to do so would be keep such a perfect place a secret.

We fell in love with this place. Andreas met us and guided us through the woods to this perfect hidden spot where a smiling Evelyn was there to greet us. The apartment is large, spacious, light and looks out over its secret valley. Heat is plentifully provided by the beautiful soapstone stove central to the room. Everything you need to cook, eat, sleep, relax and stay warm and comfortable is provided. Andreas & Evelyn are close but rarely seen or heard, allowing for a wonderful sense of privacy & security. We were able to snowboard from the house to the piste, go on high mountain walks, stroll around the beautiful town of Ortisei, or simply laze indoors watching the weather. This really is an idyllic spot.

Our stay at Evelyn and Andreas' place was fantastic. From the very first minute when Andreas waited patiently to guide us to the house, to the last when we left the property, you could not have asked for more generous and knowledgeable hosts. It was delightful to begin each day with the continental breakfast, then to hike through the extraordinary countryside, and return to the lovely apartment, with its beautiful timber walls and floors and huge glass windows looking down the valley. When we return to the Dolomites this will be the place we stay.

We spent almost a week cycling and hiking around the stunning mountains and valleys that surround Evelyn and Andreas' house. Their beautiful house is a perfect mountain retreat perched on the hillside high above the town. The house is very comfortable, peaceful and private. Andreas and Evelyn were excellent hosts and provided us with lovely fresh bread and continental breakfast in the mornings, fantastic hiking tips and were very generous to offer us lifts to town to save us from the steep walk. We managed without a car for the week and relied on our bikes, feet and our hosts' generosity. There is also a bus and taxis that can ferry you up the mountain. We loved every minute of our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for some fresh mountain air. We're already planning our next trip back to the Dolomites!

This is a fantastic place to get away from it all. Superbly located for hiking, there are numerous walks right from the front door. The apartment is spacious and comfortable for 2 people and the view is stunning! Evelyn and Andreas are excellent hosts. They provided wonderful breakfasts and are full of information about the surrounding area. Ortisei is accessible via a daily local bus service and gondola - we would recommend buying the 6 day pass if staying for a week. We used this place as a base for a climbing holiday and hired a guide from local company 'Catores' - they were brilliant and we would certainly recommend them. We will definitely return here! Many thanks.
