Large, airy, sun-drenched, 3-story single-family historic limestone on a coveted Park Slope block. Steps from Prospect Park and an easy walk to the subway. Original detail, impeccably renovated and maintained. Versatile sleeping and work space in 3 bedrooms and 1 home office. 2 bathrooms.
Minimum visit is 30 days.
You'll have an entire 3-story historic limestone townhouse at your disposal. Our airy, sun-drenched house, with Victorian, as well as Arts and Crafts touches, is a stunner. Located in the heart of Park Slope, it is filled with books, Oriental rugs, heirloom china and folk art from exotic foreign travel. Other details include: original parquet floors, stained glass, wood paneling, mosaic tile, and Stickley furniture. All three stories are available for your use – it is a single-family home with no tenant apartments.
The first floor, cooled with ductless air-conditioning during the summer, has a double-parlor living room; formal dining room; renovated cook’s kitchen with high-end appliances and a skylight. There is a 40-inch UHD TV and DVD player in the living room. A door off the kitchen opens onto a small deck with a gas grill and stairs that lead down to a charming, manicured garden. (Note: there is no bathroom or powder room on the parlor floor.)
On the second floor is one large home office with a queen-size inflatable bed; and another room that can be used as a home office, den, bedroom or all three. This room, which can sleep up to 3 people, has a convertible queen-sized sleep sofa; a large desk that converts into a single bed (see photos); and a 55-inch LG OLED TV and DVD player. These two rooms share a renovated designer bathroom in the hallway with tub/shower. Each of these rooms has a window air-conditioning unit and a ceiling fan.
The third floor has two large bedrooms (one facing the front of the house and the other facing the rear, for maximum privacy), each with a queen-sized bed. They are separated by a marble bathroom with double vanity, custom-made oak built-ins, a skylight, huge combination tub/shower, and separate toilet chamber. Each bedroom has a window air-conditioning unit and a ceiling fan.
Distinct from these three floors, on the lowest level of the house, is an English basement with a laundry room that has a separate washer and dryer, and a large playroom. Three bicycles, stored in the basement, are available for our guests' use. Additional bikes can be rented through Citibike, one block from our house at the entrance to Prospect Park.
Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the house. Wired Ethernet is available in both second-floor rooms and in the third-floor rear bedroom.
This is a private, single-family home. It's all yours for the duration of your stay. There are NO apartments or tenants to deal with.
Interaction with guests
We currently divide our time between New York and France. This home is our primary residence and we rent it while we are away. Having lived in many rented homes during our travels, we know what guests look for and appreciate. Our typical guest stays for three months and we go to great effort to stage the house for their comfort, convenience and particular needs. We are also available by phone and e-mail 24/7.
Other things to note
A great value compared to other rental options in Brooklyn or Manhattan. For about what it costs to rent a cramped apartment in a multi-unit building in Manhattan, you'll get an entire 3-story, single-family townhouse in one of New York's choicest neighborhoods. We raised a family and have run two successful home-based businesses in this house. It's a perfect setup for visiting professors, academics on sabbatical, film producers or professionals on temporary assignment in New York. For vacationers or retirees, it's a great, homey base from which to enjoy a leisurely visit to New York City.
No smoking, no pets and no visiting pets. This is an attached row house in a community in which homeowners are considerate of each other. House rules are contained in the lease agreement that all adult guests must sign and in a separate house manual that is incorporated by reference into the lease.
The lease, which must be signed by all adults who will be living in the house, provides that this home may not be used as a substitute for commercial space. As provided in the lease, guests may use the premises "as a residence and home office, provided that said home office use is a quiet one that does not involve customers, staff, clients, vendors or such persons (other than delivery services such as FedEx, couriers, postal employees and the like) coming to and from the premises for business reasons on a regular basis."
Also as provided in the lease, host will arrange for cleaning of the premises on alternate weeks at a cost of $100 per cleaning. Guests will pay the cleaning person directly. This is separate from the $200 cleaning fee added to the reservation.
