Our Mauka Studio is one of two studio suite rooms we have listed for our guests to enjoy. Mauka, meaning "mountain view" in Hawaiian, doesn't disappoint with sweeping sunset views of Pearl Harbor. (UPDATE APRIL 2017: NEWLY RENOVATED. We've been listening to our guests on how to make the place better. We've renovated our rooms to hardwood flooring, added some soundproofing to the walls, and added a window for better ventilation to make your stay more enjoyable.)

The space

Our Makua studio room comes with your own private entrance from your own lanai (patio) where you can enjoy the wonderful view of Pearl Harbor. We live separately upstairs on the second floor. From the street, there is a flight of stairs to get to the rooms. There are two completely separate studios next to each other, each with its own private entrance and private bathroom. This studio is the one on the left when facing the house. The studio is 10 x 18ft and comes with a refrigerator, microwave, electric kettle, tea, dishes, an iron, a hair dryer, closet, a full size mattress, earplugs, soap, and clean fresh linen and towels. We also have a combo lock for the keys so late check-in is not a problem. There's also very fast wifi to enjoy your Netflix after a full day around the island. We also have some boogie boards, beach chairs, beach mats, snorkel and other goodies to enjoy the beach!

Guest access

Guests have access to their own private studio with private entrance and bathroom. The lanai (patio) is shared between the two adjacent studios.

Interaction with guests

We rent out both studio rooms downstairs so you get to enjoy fellow travelers touring Hawaii. We are also home most days and available for questions and needs.

Other things to note

We've had some complaints with noise so unfortunately we do not allow guests with babies or pets.

This is a great central location for the island. We rented a car and could get to many spots in the island in about 30 minutes. If you come on July 4th, you can view the spectacular fireworks show over Pearl Harbor right from the balcony! I definitely recommend this if you are looking to have some piece and quiet away from the high tourist areas.

Great room with everything you‘ll need, even with sand chairs and snorkeling masks!

The apartment had the basic amenities we needed, the view of Pearl Harbor was great, the location was convenient, and the host was responsive to emails. Only difficulty we had was the street parking. Almost all available spots fill up by the evening. Overall it was a great stay, with the minor inconvenience of parking.

Super cute. Small but it's all you really need if you plan on spending most your time outside. Would recommend.

My husband and I needed a place to stay for the three weeks prior to his deployment after the lease on our condo nearby was over, and after some searching, we ran across Michael and Cristina's lovely place! Michael, Cristina, and Adam, were all so friendly and helpful, easy to talk to, and very welcoming. We could not have felt more at home. The room was beautiful, clean, welcoming, and had everything we needed for a short yet extended stay. Tom and I both loved the personal touches that were added to brighten the room with decor and pictures! The temperature of the room without air conditioning was lovely, especially with the shade that can be pulled down to block the sun on the porch, the ceiling fan, and the upright fan that is provided. The evening air gets relatively cool up on the hill, and Tom and I enjoyed leaving the sliding door open with the fans on and letting that night air circulate throughout the apartment. We were more than comfortable. The bathroom has the most amazing giant shower and the exhaust is so powerful by the time you're done with a lengthy shower, the mirror is no where near fogged up! Tom and I both sincerely appreciated how calm and quiet the neighborhood was, and we were astounded at how little you could hear of the many folks who came in and out of the apartment next door over the course of our stay! The soundproofing in the wall separating our room from next-door was very effective. The location was perfect for us, as Pearl Harbor base was a mere two mile bike ride away, and Waikiki beach, Aiea, Lanikai, and plenty of other beaches on the island, were approximately a half hour drive or less! There is also a bus stop right across the street, so exploring was made very easy that way as well. Coming home every night after a long day, the view from the porch was a jaw dropping sight every night we were home in time to catch it. Needless to say, if Tom gets back from deployment early and we need a place to stay for a few weeks while we get our household goods together and tie up loose ends, Michale and Cristina's place will be the first one we attempt to book! We look forward to whenever our next stay is!

Very cute and tidy place. It was equipped with everything I needed for my 4 day stay here. It can de difficult to find the address from the street. The bed wasn't the most comfortable, but still a great value for the price. Nice decor and furnishing; updated fixtures, clean bathroom and towels. Close to shopping and restaurants, and a short drive to the airport. Easy checkin/checkout. Overall, I had a very pleasant stay here. (Beware of the giant roaches that come out at night - there were no live critters in the room itself but all along the walkway leading up to the house, which I suppose is expected in this type of climate.)

Michael and Cristina are very nice people. they were courteous and considerate and checked up on the guests staying asking if we needed anything. you have to find street parking but it honestly wasn't a problem for me every night. the place was so cozy - perfect for one person or a couple. the amenities were just what i needed although i did bring my own sunscreen, beach towel, and aloe vera( i got sunburned on my own *crying emoji*). i wanted to ask if i could have an aloe vera plant in front to use but i was too shy (i used to have them in my own backyard in sf). the walkway is the cutest thing ever with a bench to sit on. and the outside patio did it for me cause i really enjoyed sitting out, enjoying the view and the weather during the mornings and nights. everything was about 10-20 mins away - nothing to complain about really. all in all i wish i had spent more time in hawaii just so i could enjoy my room a bit more. hotel rooms can be boring and a bit of the same feel but this place was so cute and comfortable that i wanted to hang out specifically at this air bnb i was staying in. totally worth it!
