Come stay in our quirky little carriage house in Prospect Heights. Set off the street past a walled garden in a former stable. Open floor plan on both stories, with a large kitchen/living room on the first floor, and a loft-like master 1.5 BR.

The space

Come stay in our quirky little carriage house in Prospect Heights. The house is set off the street in a former stable and features an open floor plan on both stories, with a large kitchen/living room on the first floor, and a loft-like master BR on the second floor. We list this as a 2BR because there is a small child's BR off the master BR. Shared garden space. Creamy terracotta tiled floor. Oriental rugs. Antique movie posters. Tasteful taxidermy.

You would never know that it's there from the street. Our place sits behind a two-story former pickle factory. The entrance is through a workshop hallway. When you walk through the front building and pop out the double doors into the garden you'll feel like you're entering in another world. (South of France? Narnia?)

Prospect Heights is a great neighborhood. We are close to all the restaurants on Vanderbilt Ave, and within walking distance of Prospect Park, Park Slope and Fort Greene.

Feel free to call or text, and I can answer any questions.

This home is a true unique hidden gem in Brooklyn. Secluded but still within steps of the train, restaurants, shopping, etc. The location is perfect! Cath is a fantastic host and communicates quickly. Everyone in the area is extremely helpful and kind. I hope to return to the Carriage House in the future.

We absolutely loved our stay. This is our second time with Cath and we'll go back every time we can. We have two little boys (ages 8 and 4) and they love the place -- staying here was literally the highlight of the trip for our 8 yr old. The house has a wonderful charm to it, truly a unique find. You walk through an entrance hall towards a converted back carriage house, which has a beautiful private courtyard (feels like a villa in Tuscany) and the 2 floor apt is just great. Cath was a fantastic host, super helpful and responsive, their neighbors were charming. The apt came with a parking spot which was a huge plus in NY. Thanks Cath for a wonderful stay.

Although Cath was not at home the week I was there, she sent me plenty of information and made me feel very connected and welcome even before I arrived. The apartment was clean, quiet and very comfortable.

I had the nicest time staying here. It was an oasis within Brooklyn. I will definitely be staying here again.

I hosted a few cocktail parties here this time around (my third stay in the place), and told my friends the venue was "The Carriage House." Many pretended to have "heard of that bar before." Liars all, but it's understandable. Once you know this place, you cannot unknow it, and you will pretend to have known about it forever. I've heaped significant praise on this venue and the hosts in my previous two reviews. All that applies to this third stay as well. Things I didn't mention before that I appreciate now: on-site washer/dryer, a communal garden in the courtyard, ceiling fan in the bedroom, and the completely unassuming facade facing the street which utterly hides the magic on the other side of the wall. For one month, I lived in a paradise, and the extended stay gave me more flavor for the lovely neighborhood. From the Latin dance nights at the neighborhood church to the Breaking Bad watch parties at Vanderbilt Avenue's Soda Bar to the proximity to Prospect Park, this hood is pretty amazing. My morning routine included a stop at Beny's Delice for coffee and a croissant and then a walk to my choice of C train (boo) or 2/3 train (yay!). I was within rolling distance of Fort Greene, and if I'd wanted to, I could have twerked with Miley Cyrus at MTV's VMAs at the Barclays Center. Someone tell AirBNB to add more stars, because five ain't enough!

This is my first repeat stay on AirBNB, and I'm hooked on the venue and the people who live there. I decided to take my winter vacation in the NYC borough where I live: Brooklyn. For 17 days I enjoyed the cracking of the fire, hosting friends in the courtyard, and exploring Vanderbilt Ave just south of Atlantic. Cath and Stefan left the place in immaculate condition with plenty of backup information for my extended stay. I wonder if AirBNB will let you rent the family along with the housing in some future version. Well done everyone!

This is THE best home and it's owned by THE best people. Part of me doesn't want to review it because then more people will know about it, thus increasing competition in the future. I even considered shutting down air travel so Cath and Stefan couldn't return, and I could stay there forever. The place is just made for dinner parties and gatherings. No TV because why would you ruin magic with fake magic? They even left me chocolates on the pillow. Classy, elegant, fun. That describes the space and the hosts.

I live in Brooklyn in an old carriage house/barn with my husband Stefan and baby Zora. Although we have been in the city for 9 years and I have lived in other urban areas (Oakland, Boston), I am a farm girl too. Grew up on a small sheep farm in VT. Just as comfortable in barn boots as high heels. I'm the Assistant Director of the planning and evaluation dept of a large public health grant dedicated to medical research (cancer, HIV/AIDS, pediatric illnesses...). I like walking the extra mile to see something unusual. I like street food. I like old things.
