Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Some info has been automatically translated.
Maria 1936 is a historic barn which has been beautifully restored into a special place to stay in the heart of the Dolomites. It has a magnificent view of Mount Pelmo. It is surrounded by amazing scenery and hiking right from the front door.

It is well positioned for the famous Dolomite Super Ski area, offering hundreds of kilometres of skiing.

The space
The interior is elegantly designed with beautiful details. The barn has three floors- this listing is for the top two floors. The top floor has a well equipped kitchen, large living room, and a sheltered balcony with a dining area looking out onto Mount Pelmo. The next floor down has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. All rooms have great views.

Guest access
On the bottom floor is the taverna with a garden. You might see guests walking down the ramp to get there, or if you want the whole property to yourself see the other version of this listing: 'Stunning 3 storey barn with garden and great view'.

Other things to note
Please make sure you have put the correct amount of guests for your stay. To make it more affordable for smaller groups the base price is for two people. The house is prepared in the following ways according to guest numbers:

1-2 Guests: Pelmo bedroom with en-suite bathroom open. Blue bathroom closed.
3-4 Guests: Pelmo bedroom open, plus you can choose between the Civetta room or bunk bedroom
5-6 Guest: either all bedrooms open.
Note- if you are three people and want three separate rooms you need to put 5 guests. Also note that infants are't counted as guests so if you are a couple with a baby please put 3 guests if you want an extra bedroom opened for the crib. Please send a message saying how many you actually are!

Shoes are prohibited in the house. We have a large selection of slippers you can use, or bring your own.

The barn has a big boiler- however it takes a while to reheat and larger groups need to stagger showers (ideally some in the morning and some the evening).

The internet modem is connected with a SIM card. Mostly it is good and at other times it is really slow. We are waiting for a broadband connection but it is not yet
available. We offer no refunds if it is slow or not working.

If you are staying in the winter then you must make sure your car has winter tyres and snow chains. The road up to the barn is on quite a steep hill and if it snows the road becomes slippery. Rent a 4X4 if you are staying at a particularly snowy time.

The heating is set to 20C, and we also have two Stube (the traditional wood heaters), they give off a lovely heat and makes the rooms warmer. We fill them in the morning and evening (instructions in the house manual). If you want it hotter; either use the Stube or you can pay for the extra heat: €10 per day for each degree. Let us know and we can arrange the details.

There is a high cleaning fee. This is because the availability of cleaners is limited in the mountains and we have to leave two days on either side of the booking to accommodate this. For bookings of one week or more there is a 15% discount which more than covers the cleaning fee.

Neighbourhood highlights

Situated in a world heritage site and described by UNESCO as "mountain landscapes that are of exceptional natural beauty", Maria 1936 looks out on to two of the Dolomites 18 peaks which rise to above 3,000 metres; Mount Pelmo 3,160 metres, and Mount Civetta 3,220 metres.

The area offers breathtaking hiking, mountain biking, climbing for outdoor enthusiasts.

In the winter Maria 1936 is well positioned for skiing. We get the Dolomiti Super Ski pass, which means we can go to a different place each day to ski. There are three main areas:

◉ Civetta has 72km of skiing and is the closest (you can see some of the runs from the balcony). There are lifts from Pescul (7km, 10 minute drive) or the Alleghe Funivie (13km, 18 minute drive).

◉ Arabba / Marmolada with connections to Corvara, Val Gardena & Alta Badia has over 500km of skiing including the famous Sella Ronda. This is our favorite and we usually drive to Arabba (21km, 27min drive) or alternatively to the Marmolada (18km, 27minute drive).

◉ Cortina D’Ampezzo has 120km of skiing. The nearest chair-lift is from Rifugio Fedare (10km, 17 minute drive), which links to the other runs. NB: you need to already have your ski-pass. Alternatively the Falzarego Pass (19km, 24 minute drive). If you want to experience the town then you can go to Pocol (24km, 38 minute drive).
