The Cottage is a quaint, 1 bedroom, self-catering holiday cottage set in the beautiful and quiet village of Earl Sterndale approximately 5 miles south of the spa town of Buxton.

Within easy reach of Bakewell, Ashbourne, Chelmorton, Longnor, Leek, Crowdecote, Hartington and many walking, hiking and cycling routes.

Relax and enjoy this tranquil rural retreat in the heart of the Peak District!

Well behaved dogs are welcome, please scroll down for more details.

The space
The Cottage was built from local limestone in the 16th Century and once served as the village bakery for Earl Sterndale. The interior is small but beautifully designed, with a simple rural elegance. The ground floor has a warm fire and a comfy Chesterfield, and the open plan kitchen area has a stone flagged floor and solid wooded cabinets. There is wifi, a flat panel smart TV with Freeview, and a Bluetooth / FM radio.

An iron spiral staircase leads upstairs to the bedroom, which has vaulted ceilings and exposed beams above the bed. The charming bathroom has a bath tub and a shower, with shiny stainless steel fittings.

A small summerhouse in the back yard houses a barbecue, a washing machine, and dry space for bikes. The summerhouse is accessible via the neighbouring gardens where The Cottage has a right of way. There is no back door to The Cottage.

The Cottage is the perfect country holiday retreat, with a traditional pub a few steps away, and excellent dining available in neighbouring villages. A short drive away, the historic spa town of Buxton provides both culture in the form of the Opera House, and practicality in the form of the Waitrose supermarket, which is open until 8pm.

There are wonderful hikes right from the doorstep to the dramatic peaks of nearby High Wheeldon and Parkhouse Hill, or on to Chrome Hill and the Roaches beyond. The quiet, local roads and the Tissington and High Peak Trails provide more gentle routes for cyclists or walkers in inclement weather.

Guest access
Guests will have full access to The Cottage. The summerhouse is behind The Cottage but you have to pass through two neighbouring gardens. This is a right of way and is common for small, rural cottages. For information, the sun hits the front of the house in the afternoon.

Other things to note
Bed linen and towels are provided.

There is a spiral staircase between the ground and first floor. Please check the photos to make sure this will not cause an access problem for you.

Well behaved dogs are welcome, but there is an extra charge. (£25 per dog, maximum 2 dogs). Please contact Hazel for details.
