The lodging was great- but the special treatment by Angie and Louis made the stay very special. They are attentive, helpful, and all smiles!!!!

Rod was super friendly and Anna(?) the girl who made our breakfasts was so kind. Everything was just as we thought. Lovely grounds, lovely hammocks, cute geckos. All you'd want the Galapagos to be. Rod was also super helpful in providing restaurant and day tour recommendations and set ups.

We were a party of 5, not all arriving on the same flight, and wanting a place where some could catch some shut-eye while waiting for the rest of us to arrive. The Mi Caleta Inn fit the bill. The host helped us arrange a taxi, with the driver waiting for us with name sign in hand, when we arrived in Baltra. We took the ferry to Santa Cruz Island (about 10 minutes, $1 per person), then the taxi (a Toyota truck with extended cab, like all taxis) to Puerto Ayora (about 30 minutes, $40). It's $20 from town to the ferry, and the extra $20 (we learned) was for the taxi driver to take the ferry to the airport and wait for the flight. We had our three bedrooms, each with bath, in the main building. There were other visitors in other rooms in the complex. Breakfast was offered in the kitchen/dining area of our building, and that was the first issue we had. There are two tables, one in the kitchen, and one in the "dining" area. Our bedrooms opened into the dining area, and we had our breakfast in the kitchen (the host asks you what time you want breakfast - scrambled eggs, pastries, juice, and coffee). Other travelers had their breakfast in the dining area. So that was weird... coming out of your room in your pjs into an area with another group having breakfast! It would have been better to have our breakfast in the dining area, and other groups having breakfast in the kitchen, with something like a bamboo screen dividing the two. Why? Because other than breakfast, we had the whole floor, and we couldn't help but use it as "our" space. We had a lot of our stuff out. So don't leave valuables in the common area in the morning (although we didn't have anything taken or misplaced). You need to know that when you get the "entire floor," you still have the cook come in and use the kitchen, the door is open, and others will come in to eat. We did prepare 2 dinners in the kitchen. It would be nice if the hosts could provide a few spices, mark where the pots and pans go, and make sure the purified water jug is full and the spout is working. You get a key to your room, your building, and the front gate. The location is great... about 3 blocks from the waterfront and the entrance to the Charles Darwin Research Center. There are loaner bikes (although we walked everywhere), hammocks, outdoor tables for playing cards (sorry our games got boisterous!), and beach towels. 110 outlets. It took about 3 minutes of running until the hot water started coming out of the faucet. All in all, we really appreciated a clean, well-organized base of operations for out activities (we spent 2 nights there, then when on a cruise, then back for 2 nights). The hosts are knowledgeable and very friendly....

Rod was terrific - very helpful in finding our way around. He had a taxi driver waiting for us at Baltra airport which made our journey so easy. We arrived anxious however, without enough cash to pay the national park entry fee, and of course the ATM at Baltra airport was broken. We had no choice but to part with our passports and pick them up in Puerto Ayora. Rod calmed us down at out us right at ease. Rod's Mi Caleta Inn is charming, clean, spacious and comfortable. Just a short downhill walk to the main waterfront. No complaints!

I AM AN EASY GOING ISLANDER OF 30+ YEARS IN THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS, A FORMER NATURALIST GUIDE OF 27 YEARS TILL I RETIRED IN 2009. PEOPLE ARE A WONDER TO ME AND I LOVE TO SHOW OFF MY ISLANDS WITH MY GUESTS, ME AND MY WIFE HELP ORGANIZING TRIPS TO OUR VISITORS AROUND THE ISLANDS AS WELL AS INSIDE SANTA CRUZ WHICH IS OUR HOME. OUR FAVORITE PHRASE DESCRIBING MI CALETA INN IS " YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME".
THINGS I LIKE BEST ARE PEOPLE, THE COUNTRY SIDE, THE SMELL OF FRESHLY TURNED SOIL (I AM A FARMER AT HEART) AND OF COURSE COUNTRY MUSIC. I ROAST MY OWN COFFEE BEANS THAT I GROW UP ON THE HIGHLANDS OF MY ISLAND AND LOVE TO HAVE MY GUESTS SAMPLE IT AND COMMENT. I LIKE TO TRAVEL LIGHT, ON THE WAY OUT, AND AS I AM A SOMEWHAT COMPULSIVE SHOPPER, COME BACK MORE LOADED THAN I LEFT. MY SECOND FAVORITE MUSIC IS POP EN ESPAÑOL, ESPECIALLY THE ONE MY SON'S GROUP (TERCER MUNDO) CREATES. MY THREE BOYS ARE THE GROUP.
MY MOTTO WOULD BE, ENJOY LIFE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. IT IS TO SHORT TO WHINE AND COMPLAIN!!
