About this listing

In Lostwithiel, in het hart van Cornwall, ligt ons huisje Astrantia House.
We noemen het zelf onze geheime plek….want hoewel het midden in het stadje ligt, is het echt een verborgen schat.
In Lostwithiel, in the heart of Cornwall, lies our cosy cottage: Astrantia. We call it our secret place, because though you're in the middle of the town, it's a hidden treasure.

The space

You arrive at the house from Kings street, where, at the end of a dead end little alleyway, Astrantia lies behind the red garden door. At the front of the house there is a garden for kids to play with two terraces and a little garden shed.

You enter the house either from the front door into the hallway, or from the double kitchendoors (our favorite entry). Pls take your shoes of in the house :) The kitchen is fully equiped with all kinds of appliances (dishwasher, fridge, freezer, double oven, microwave, coffemachine, Nespresso, blender, mixer etc). You only have to bring your own Nespresso pods.

The dining room has a gorgeous Woodburn stove (it doesn't work but still... it looks good. And not to worry, the whole house has central heating). Through it you enter the utilityroom with a washer and dryer and adjacent there's the downstairs bathroom with shower and toilet.

Between the diner and the living there's the hallway with front door and stairs. The living is comfy and warm with a little stove (that does work). This is the oldest part of the house (c. 300 years) with thick walls and wide window sills. The living has a flatscreen tv with cd/dvd player.

Upstairs you find the main (large) bedroom with a double bed and plenty closetspace. The second bedroom also has a double bed and the third bedroom is a kidsroom with a bunk bed.
The bathroom upstairs has a bath and a toilet.

Oh yes, minor detail: we've renovated the place in the winter of 2016/2017 so it looks gorgeous! (caused by a nasty fungus, but hey, every downside has it's upside)
We hope you'll love it as much as we do!

Guest access

You have access to the entire house and garden. There's only a couple of closets where we keep our own stuff.

Interaction with guests

We live in the Netherlands so it's a bit difficult to pop over for a chat. We'll be available by phone and email. But our daughter lives just of King street with her husband and three kids, and they can help if help is needed (details are all at the house). She was the reason we came to acquire a house in Lostwithiel, and we love to come over ourselves as often as we can.

Other things to note

During the summer holiday we only accept bookings from saturday to saturday. The rest of the year: feel free to ask.

They left a key for us because we arrived late in the evening. There was lots of information about the area which was very useful.

Really great house. Location was fantastic - just a few mins walk into village centre. Didn't realise how lucky we were to get a place with a little garden too until we got there and saw how tightly packed the houses are in Lostwithiel! Parking was tricky at times, but mostly we parked in the free community car park in the village which was fine - just a few mins walk away. The owners were a bit slow to reply to enquiries (at times had to message again to get a response), but were always very helpful and friendly when they did reply.

The house was absolutely lovely with lots of scandinavian touches. What I especially liked was the Cornish crockery! The kitchen was very well equipped and made for lovely meals. We were very sad to leave her eand would have loved to have stayed on a bit.

Our family absolutely loved the Jo and Tineke's cosy cottage in Cornwall experience from start to finish. The property was everything expected and delighted us with it's quirky character and fabulous standard of cleanliness, and attention to detail. The location was ideal for us to explore the bounties of Cornwall and we would highly recommend this property to others. Thank you Jo and Tineke for allowing us to holiday in your amazing house.

This house is as fabulous as it looks on the photos. It is spacious, clean and airy. We instantly relaxed once inside the garden gate. We loved the Dutch touches and the contemporary interiors - every room had something special - lovely views from all bedrooms. We were lucky with the weather over the May half term week and were able to eat both breakfast and/or dinner outside in the sunny garden most days ( plenty of garden furniture for this too). We found the location excellent for exploring this part of Cornwall and the house had a variety of books, maps and guides to get the most out of our stay. Breathtaking walks from the house to the local Restormel Castle ( across Dutchy land) and then onto Bodmin Parkway Station (train back!) that were just as uplifting and inspiring as nearby Eden Project and Gardens of Heligan. Local beaches were great. Lostwithiel is well served with small supermarkets and even the local newsagent sells a good selection of local fresh produce. Worth sampling produce from the butcher and pie shop too. We didn't mind the parking - not too different from home! Good wifi, mobile and TV reception. We had a fantastic week - Thank you.

We all had a lovely time at Jo & Tineke's cottage. It was just as the photos show - beautifully decorated, clean and spacious. With 3 small children and lots of rainy days, the cottage was perfectly situated to go for muddy walks to explore the local castle, Duchy cafe & fantastic Lanhydrock National Trust or jump in the car & head to the beautiful Polkeris beach & walk along the coast into Fowey. After lots of walking & jumping into muddy puddles the cottage was our little haven with a washing machine, tumble dryer and a bath! Bliss. We have lots of good memories and hope to return one day soon. Thank you Jo & Tineke!

House was well equipped and tastefully furnished. We enjoyed our stay over Christmas and New Year. Problem with central heating boiler was sorted very quickly thank you. Would recommend to stay. However, bunk beds are not adult size so could be a challenge when 6 adults stay. Lostwithiel was very nice, locals very friendly good selections of restaurants, pubs & coffee shops. Antiques and pasties very good too. Convenient location to visit Looe and Fowey. Excellent train service to London and Bristol (station only a few mins walk from house). Parking not available immediately outside house and can be challenging to get a space on the street nearby and also were blocked in several times due to others double parking. There is a free car park at local community centre down the hill several hundred yards away which could be an issue due to steep hills. Overall we had a very relaxing stay despite the weather .

Response from Jo & Tineke:
Hi Michael, Thank you for your words. We know, the bunkbeds are more for kids. We always advice not to park in the street, the car park is just a few minutes walk. The house was left ok, all the stuff like frigde, hobb and dishwasher clean and open. Thank you.
