The space
Built in 1903, this updated and yet stunning example of Victorian craftsmanship is a perfect place for family and friends looking to find an easy getaway in the Berkshires. The interior is sunny, bright and modern with charming Victorian details like lead-glass windows, antique door hardware, and original wood floors. The exterior is classic Victorian with several outdoor features such as a covered front porch with outdoor seating, screened-in supper porch, and large back deck with bbq grill and mountain views and access to the fenced-in yard. This home offers wonderful possibilities.

The house is well appointed on the ground floor level with a large living room, music parlor/library including a grand piano and large assortment of art and design books, large eat-in kitchen (at the counter seats 5), separate dining room area with large farm table and French café chairs with seating for 8, ½ bath, and large pantry/laundry room with side by side, front loading washer and dryer. The living room and parlor comfortably seat 10 guests. There are inviting touches throughout the house such as: lovely artwork, books, games, puzzles and toys to entertain both children and adults!

The kitchen is well equipped with high-end stainless appliances and quality cookwear including All-Clad and Le Creuset. All tools needed for baking are available including a Kitchen-aid stand mixer. Kitchen includes a large assortment of quality small appliances including microwave, food-processor, blender, coffee maker and 4 slot toaster. At the kitchen sink, a Multi-Pure water filter system is built-in. The deck and screened porch can be accessed from both the kitchen and the living room.

The second floor has 2 bedrooms: the master suite with a king bed and full bathroom with tub/shower combination, ensuite. The second large bedroom has a queen bed and access to a small 2nd floor porch. A second bath is on this floor, shower only.

The third floor is a delightful converted attic space with two rooms. One bedroom has 4 twin beds: 2 extra long singles and the third is a twin trundle which can be made up as a twin, two twins or a king--perfect for a group sleepover! The other room has one extra-long twin and small trundle bed. All three floors have central air-conditioning.

The extra-long twins have organic rubber mattress. Due to their generous length and quality, these mattresses are very comfortable for adults as well as children.

Outside you have a delightful front sitting porch and lovely cottage gardens with pathways leading to the front walk and side parking area. The back sun deck is private, with outdoor seating and a grill for dining al fresco. There is also a cozy screen tea porch, on the side of the house, accessed through the family room. The yard is fenced with a delightful playhouse!

Most mattress and pillows are organic natural rubber. Bed and bath linens are high-quality. The house is cleaned and maintained with only natural chemical-free products.

Where you’ll be

Great Barrington, Massachusetts, United States

The house is on "The Hill," one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the #1 small town in America (according to Smithsonian Magazine's list of Top 20 Small Towns in America).

Lake Mansfield, which has a sandy beach with lifeguard, swing set, jungle gym and picnic/bbq area, is a short walk away; a great place for a refreshing swim at the beach; or bring a canoe or kayaks for a paddle around the lake.

Main Street Great Barrington, a 3 minute stroll, is a iconic New England town with many wonderful restaurants and unique shops including ice cream, coffee, pastry, art supplies, clothing boutiques and toys.

There are many cultural attractions both in town (Mahaiwe Theatre) and a short drive away, including Tanglewood, the Norman Rockwell and Chesterwood Museums, Berkshire Theatre Festival, The Mount - Edith Wharton's Estate, and Shakespeare & Company. A slightly longer drive away are the Berkshire Museum, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, The Clark Museum, and Mass MoCa (Massachusetts Museum of Modern Art).

The Berkshires are also famous for natural beauty; including the Appalachian trail and the trails at Monument Mountain. The house is also very close to the Butternut and Catamount ski slopes.

Cyclists may want to bring their bikes to explore the scenic roadways, or for travel to neighboring towns. We do have one adult bike and one child bike available.

At the house there is free off-street parking for up to three cars. The house is less than a 5 minute walk to the very center of town, and an 8 minute walk to Lake Mansfield, the location is convenient to Stockbridge, Lee, Lenox, and Egremont, and about 45 minutes from Pittsfield, a little over an hour to North Adams. Great Barrington is about 2.5-3 hours from NYC or Boston, and is close to the Massachusetts borders with NY State and Connecticut.
