I have been coming to Vinalhaven for summer vacation for over 50 years, nearly every summer of my life. when our family's place has not been available, we have rented at various spots on the island. The best thing I can say about this house is that it is a short walk from tow…
Response from Beverly:
Thanks for your suggestions, Lisa. They will help us in the future, if we choose to rent our house on Airbnb again. This summer was our first time doing that, and we have some things to learn about renting the house to people we don't know. In the past, renting our house to friends, and friends of friends has worked out very well in regards to them leaving our house in the same, clean condition that they find it. Sorry that was an issue for you. Your generosity in buying beach towels for the house ( I thought there were plenty of towels in the linen closet?) and homemade cobbler did not go unnoticed. Both were thoughtful gestures on your part, and we thank you, though we would have preferred that you planned ahead and left no perishables in the kitchen and refrigerator. I'm sorry that I am not very good at communicating well by texting, and I just did not have the time to continue doing that with you when you left VH on Aug. 21. We had to spend the time "reclaiming" our house that day to get ready for the arrival of our grandchildren. Also sorry that you left your vacation in VH on a "sour note."
Our summer house in Vinalhaven is not available on Airbnb anymore. We love it for what it is. Apparently, others have higher expectations for a little house on a working island in Maine.
