Other things to note
We are happy to host 2 medium dogs, the hut is a cosy space so it would need to be happy to sleep in the kitchen area or by the bed and they would not be permitted to be left alone in the hut or to get on the furniture or bed. The woods are not fenced, the boundary is all Cornish hedgerow so dogs will need to be under close control if there are sheep in the neighbouring fields.

The hut is only suitable for two people and we are unable to accommodate young children due to the step access and limited space.

We do no permit smoking or vaping inside the hut.

Neighbourhood highlights

The hut is nestled in private woodland surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and National Trust land. In a beautiful rural setting there is plenty to explore from the doorstep: the Southwest Coast path, Hall Walk, Pont Pil, Bodinnick and Fowey (via ferry- car or passenger) are all just a 10-15minute walk away and offer a huge choice of pubs, restaurants and bars as well as local independent shops & galleries.

Fowey a well renowned within the sailing community is a mile away and can be reached on foot or by car via the Bodinnick ferry. Fowey holds a Regatta week each August with live music, events and rounded off with a fantastic firework display on the last night over the River Fowey.

For those that like to sail, kayak and enjoy water sports- we are a 2min drive or 10min walk to mixtow marina if you have your own boat, launching arranged via the marina or at the quay in Fowey. Fowey also provides the opportunity to hire a boat/kayak/SUP or having sailing lessons at the yacht club in Fowey. If you have kayaks we can tell you where is best to launch and provide a tide times book to guests so you can make the most of the water.

Sea safari's are also available locally during the summer season (usually April- October), these offer a great opportunity to see the local wildlife: dolphins, porpoises, even minky whales.

Horse Riding- available all year at Polmartin. 10minutes from the Little Hut they offer lessons and hack for all levels of experience. The riding school have their own tracks making a wonderful riding experience through beautiful countryside. Open throughout the year.

Love Pilates? We can offer 1:1 sessions at the hut with a local Pilates teacher or book a session on the beach followed by a refreshing sea swim with Kerry at Waves Health & Well-being.

The area is open all year making it a great base no matter what the season. We love the Fowey Christmas Market in November. A festive delight of local crafters and artisans 💕 You’ll feel like Christmas is truly here.

Bodinnick a mile away (15min walk) has the Old Ferry Inn with a warm welcome and a well stocked shop full of local delights. The ferry at Bodinnick for both cars and pedestrians takes you directly into Fowey. Private ferries outside of these times can be arranged on request.

Fowey is well known within the sailing fraternity with sailing clubs and boat hire available at several outlets Fore Street is full of independent shops, giving Fowey a lovely atmosphere with it’s busy quay and ferry to Polruan and Mevagissey- one we recommend for a spot of dolphin watching. 🐬

Lerryn is a scenic village, tucked away in rolling hills on the banks of the Lerryn which feeds into the Fowey. Wind in the Willows country. A great spot for a picnic, walk along the river via the stepping stones or even better- by kayak. A lovely place for wildlife spotting.

What we love:
- guided kayak tour by Encounter Cornwall based in Golant.

- try out Bar Silo (bar in a silo) also in Golant. Lots of pop up events and live music.

- Foodie Fowey. Make the most of your holiday and indulge, walking counteracts any additional calories consumed, right?!

- Eden Project, it’s 20 mins away and a lovely day out. Dogs are permitted in the grounds but not the biomes.

- Hidden coves on the Southwest coast path. The joy of being the only person on the beach. Swim, kayak or SUP and explore beaches you can only access by water.

- Lerryn, walking along the river followed by lunch at the pub.

- Lost Gardens of Heligan. A great visit with the lantern festival in the winter months being a particular favourite.

- Duchy Nursery, amazing views to Restormel Castle and a great circular walk crossing the Fowey. Lovely breakfasts (highly recommend 😋), and leisurely lunches with robins joining you. The shop is an Aladdin’s cave celebrating local wares and great for present buying, for you, home or a lucky loved one!

- Whitecross Produce Market. 1st Saturday of the month. It’s a 5min stroll and a great way to stock up.
Check out the notice board at Whitecross as there are events all year. Yoga on a Monday night too.

- The Old Ferry Inn. A nice walk through the lanes and only one hill on the way back (none on the way there- best way round!) Wednesday’s is curry night, eat in or takeaway. BBQ’s in sunny days and dining in all year round. Cosy up by the fire or take in the wonderful views overlooking Fowey & Polruan.

- Local circular walks:
Pont Pil, at high tide great for taking a dip. A 10min walk away a perfect spot to take in the river and tranquility.
The famous Hall Walk is a 10min walk away is a circular walk taking in Bodinnick, Fowey, Polruan and back. The views across the river are spectacular and crossing the river in two separate ferries it is a walk to remember.

- Local Eggs. So many farms selling eggs laid that day. You can’t beat them. Stop and check out the veg, plants and cider sold locally. Enjoy an impromptu cider tasting!

- The North Coast is only 30mins away. Surf lessons at Polzeath. Enjoy the wrath of the Atlantic Coast and then retreat to the calm of the South for dinner on the beach at Sam’s in Polkerris.

Hi, I permanently relocated to Cornwall in 2021 with my family and slightly bonkers dog, Salty. We feel very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world where everyone takes the time to stop and chat. I love to sea swim, walk, kayak and explore the natural world. Happy to share recommendations and help guests when needed.
