Peaceful, modern, and centrally located, it feels like you are in a treehouse, away from the bustle, but you can walk to anything you need, including the Farmer's Market and Shepherd Canyon Trail.
Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck while listening to the birds and the bubbling creek below, or a glass of wine or tea while the sun sets and the owls begin to hoot.
This is your hopping off point to visit the Bay Area; you can be in SF in 20 minutes or in wine country in less than an hour.
The space
Location:
The Treehouse Retreat is just off of Hwy 13 and a few minutes to Hwy 24, I-580, and a plethora of hiking/biking trails.
Within walking distance in Montclair Village, you will find great restaurants; grocery stores; pharmacies; coffee, cheese, and chocolate shops; bookstores; specialty shops; yoga and other fitness classes; a farmer’s market; basketball, tennis and pickleball courts; a large park with a picnic area, grass fields, a duck pond, and play structures; and a nice walking trail.
For your immediate/last minute needs, there is a 7-11 convenience store within ~3 minutes by walking, as well as a local coffee shop (Thornhill Coffee House), brewpub, and nail salon.
Bedroom & work space: Sleep on a dreamy Casper queen-size mattress with a duvet comforter, luxury sheets, and several different pillow options. The bedroom has a large closet with shelves and a desk for working. There is a laptop stand and anti-fatigue mat for your use. For stays of a month or longer, upon request, we can move a Capisco Chair by HÅG (ergonomic chair) into the unit.
Entrance & deck: Guests have their own entrance and a private outdoor deck with chairs and a small side table.
Kitchen: There is a full kitchen with an electric cooktop, refrigerator, microwave/mini oven combo, toaster, Keurig coffee maker (with coffee pods, creamer, and various sweetener options provided), and there is also a French coffee press. Basic spices and olive oil are also provided.
Living room: Snuggle up on the cozy couch from Room & Board, or sit in one of the comfortable chairs while watching a movie on the large UHD smart TV.
Dining: The dining table, which I re-finished, was my grandfather’s growing up (he would be older than 100 now). It is expandable to accommodate several people or just to have more surface space, though there is a desk in the bedroom.
Bathroom: The bathroom is small (see pictures), but it has a full-size tub/shower with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Toiletry-type items are also provided.
Parking: You have a dedicated spot (it’s narrow) at the top of our steep driveway for one car or street parking is readily available.*
Laundry: For stays of 7 nights or longer, we can arrange for you to do laundry; our laundry room has an exterior door and we can be flexible on scheduling its use so long as we have time to coordinate and aren’t out of town. Please let us know at booking if you think you’ll want to do laundry.
************
Ideal for 2 people, the space can accommodate two adults and a child; if you plan to have more than two adults sharing a queen bed, we can provide a single cot and/or single air mattress with advance notice and an additional charge (there is an additional charge for each guest more than 2 people or more than using just the queen bed; the pack n’ play is no additional charge).
*The parking is up a steep driveway and is a narrow spot with little room on either side of the car; you may need to let your passenger out before pulling in to the spot (but we have used it for years ourselves with no issue and we have had several guests with SUVs and vans park there; there are pictures in the photo section if you want to see what it looks like).
Guest access
The guest suite is built above the garage and has its own entrance. We often go an entire stay without seeing or hearing our guests.
Other things to note
This property requires the ability to climb a set of stairs from the top of the driveway where you park to the second floor (the suite is built above the garage); if parking on the street, it will require another set of stairs or a walk on the steep driveway.
We recommend (if possible) to arrive when it is still light out so you can more easily orient yourself to the property (it is unique and sits on an acre of hilly wooded land on a dark residential street).
As mentioned elsewhere in the listing the parking spot is narrow. Please be respectful and be sure to pull far enough in that three cars are able to come and go from the top of the driveway. You may need to let your front seat passenger out before pulling into the spot.
The guest suite is attached to the home we live in, but has its own entrance and as the reviews can attest, feels very private. For the most part we do not go into the room that is situated in between the home and the guest suite (we use it for storage of various items).
We are happy to offer a discount for longer-stay traveling nurses, plus the option to use a laundry room with an exterior entrance.
