About this listing
Private room on the 4th floor, own shower+WC, great value! Has an AC, fan, and desk. We live in a big house, about half-way between Russian and BKK markets. Also, a lovely roof-top terrace, plenty of living areas and two hosts nearby!
The house is very spacious, which helps to stay cool in the summer. Your room is on the 4th floor (four flights of stairs).
The bright and spacious room features its own bathroom and a nice desk.
There are two living rooms, a well equipped kitchen and a large rooftop terrace.
Our housekeeper comes the house 5 times per week to keep everything extra clean. She cleans each bedroom twice per week. For longer term guests, the cleaner can do laundry, but shorter term guests can feel free to use the laundry machine themselves.
We offer free bicycles for a small deposit (but depend upon availability, so please let us know ahead of time!).
Interaction with guests
We enjoy getting to know all of our guests. We often go out for dinner with the house or have brunch on our rooftop, but this depends on our and the other guests work schedules. One of us is generally always available to help with any issues, but we may not be home all the time.
The neighborhood is home to mostly middle-class families, busy during the day and (usually) quiet at night. The house is a few blocks away from the Genocide Museum, and a 10-15 min walk from the Russian market. There are several cheap, local eating options on the block, and lots of Western cafes and restaurant in BKK1 and Russian market area, a short tuktuk or bike ride away.
You can easily get around by moto, tuktuk or bicycle. Walking isn’t convenient with traffic, but motos and tuk tuks are inexpensive. Keep in mind that most tuktuk or moto drivers are not familiar with maps, so you will need to give directions to the driver. For the most part, Phnom Penh is laid out as a grid, with even number streets running east-west, and odd number streets running north-south. A big difficulty is that house numbers are not in order, so #44 could be next door to #50 and #359. Make sure to note landmarks and cross streets (e.g. next to Lucky supermarket, between St 105 and St 95), then find your destination on the map and give directions to your driver.
Other things to note
There is one big bed in the room, and if needed, we can put a queen size mattress into the room as well. This will depend on availability and you should check with us before if it is available.
Opening the gate requires a little bit of getting used to, as you have to reach through the gate to get at the padlock. This is a common system in Phnom Penh houses. Vast majority of our guests has not had any issues with this, but if you have problems with your wrists etc., the gate might give you some trouble.
We have bicycles available for guests, but check with us ahead of time if you'll need one.
We have a very tame and super friendly outdoor cat named Tina. She usually stays on the upstairs balcony and is not allowed inside. She may try to sneak in, but don’t let her!
The bed in the room is quite high up, but it offers some great space below to store your luggage!
Our house is LGBT friendly and we welcome everyone.
The gate and doors need to stay locked at all times
Guests are expected to do their own dishes
Please ask before inviting guests to the house.
Please keep noise to a minimum in the night and early in the morning (10 pm - 9 am).
Smoking is not allowed inside the house, but there is a terrace upstairs where it is okay
Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund plus service fees back.

We are two friends who've been living in Cambodia for a few years. Irina works with sanitation and wastewater, and Michael's background is in business. We're enjoying sharing our Phnom Penh homes with travelers and visitors. In the evenings and on the weekends, we like to go out, stay in, watch movies, plan trips. We look forward to hearing about your adventures and travels!
