The space

The house is very spacious, which helps to stay cool in the summer. Your room is on the 4th floor (four flights of stairs).

The bright and spacious room features its own bathroom and a nice desk.

Guest access

There are two living rooms, a well equipped kitchen and a large rooftop terrace.

Our housekeeper comes the house 5 times per week to keep everything extra clean. She cleans each bedroom twice per week. For longer term guests, the cleaner can do laundry, but shorter term guests can feel free to use the laundry machine themselves.

We offer free bicycles for a small deposit (but depend upon availability, so please let us know ahead of time!).

Interaction with guests

We enjoy getting to know all of our guests. We often go out for dinner with the house or have brunch on our rooftop, but this depends on our and the other guests work schedules. One of us is generally always available to help with any issues, but we may not be home all the time.

The neighbourhood

The neighborhood is home to mostly middle-class families, busy during the day and (usually) quiet at night. The house is a few blocks away from the Genocide Museum, and a 10-15 min walk from the Russian market. There are several cheap, local eating options on the block, and lots of Western cafes and restaurant in BKK1 and Russian market area, a short tuktuk or bike ride away.

Getting around

You can easily get around by moto, tuktuk or bicycle. Walking isn’t convenient with traffic, but motos and tuk tuks are inexpensive. Keep in mind that most tuktuk or moto drivers are not familiar with maps, so you will need to give directions to the driver. For the most part, Phnom Penh is laid out as a grid, with even number streets running east-west, and odd number streets running north-south. A big difficulty is that house numbers are not in order, so #44 could be next door to #50 and #359. Make sure to note landmarks and cross streets (e.g. next to Lucky supermarket, between St 105 and St 95), then find your destination on the map and give directions to your driver.

Other things to note

There is one big bed in the room, and if needed, we can put a queen size mattress into the room as well. This will depend on availability and you should check with us before if it is available.

Opening the gate requires a little bit of getting used to, as you have to reach through the gate to get at the padlock. This is a common system in Phnom Penh houses. Vast majority of our guests has not had any issues with this, but if you have problems with your wrists etc., the gate might give you some trouble.

We have bicycles available for guests, but check with us ahead of time if you'll need one.

We have a very tame and super friendly outdoor cat named Tina. She usually stays on the upstairs balcony and is not allowed inside. She may try to sneak in, but don’t let her!

The bed in the room is quite high up, but it offers some great space below to store your luggage!

Our house is LGBT friendly and we welcome everyone.

Nice place to stay in Phenom Penh. I loved the terrace to sit down and read a bit, really coazy. The place is very near downtown and there are a lot of nice restaurants and cafes around. The communication with the host was very easy. I would come back to this place. Thank you very much for everything

First of all the house is great and it's huge. To reach the rooms on the top floor you need to pass 4 locks, a bit crazy but that looks like the standard in Phnom Penh. The good thing is that you and your neighbor in the other room have private kitchen with a fridge and even a washing machine :) The bathroom is outside the room but is very clean and nice and is all yours. The view from the rooftop is not exactly spectacular but the area itself is quite nice to chill surrounded by the cats. The wifi is great and I know that because I work online and I can easily spot lousy internet but here I don't know if this is normal for Cambodia or just in the house but the wifi was super good. Download Exnet Taxi app which is Uber like service in Phnom Penh, I used it several times without any problems and not much more expensive than a tuk tuk but 100 times safer. The other rooms in the lower floors which were vacant at the time looked really nice as well.

I only met Michael when I moved, but if you messaged him directly he would answer quickly and there is also a house chat so everyone is on the loop. The house is more about the people who stay there rather than the hosts. If you are staying in Phnom Penh for a couple of months or just want to find your feet before getting another place, it is a great way to meet people as there are 6 or 7 bedrooms and a great roof terrace. I would stay here again, definitely.

I stayed in this room for two months and would book it again if I were to come back next summer. Description is fairly accurate. The actual room looks very much the same as the photos. Michael was always responsive to my questions, and came to fix things right away when I notified him. What I liked the most was the housemates I got to meet during my stay. It was great having some company upon my arrival. They gave me tips on where to eat and find groceries. We also cooked and dined out together. The balcony is very spacious, with lots of arm chairs and two house cats. It was a perfect hangout place and I enjoyed some great conversations with the house after dinner. My experience would be very different had I stayed in a suite on my own. Other things I liked: 1) Location of this house is great! It's between BKK1 and the Russian Market, and only a couple of blocks away from the main road (Moniveng Blvd); 2) I was allowed to use the house bike which saved me the hassle of buying and selling; 3) There's a lady who comes to the house to clean the rooms and, if you want, do your laundry. I appreciated the cleanliness of the place! 4) House cats are adorable. My only complaint is the door separating my room and the corridor that leads to the kitchen. It's not a conventional door and sometimes doesn't close well. It also can't be locked at night. The door situation turned out to be alright because I had two awesome (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), but I would prefer to have a lock on it for my own peace of mind. You should also be aware that the washroom is not in the bedroom, which wasn't a problem for me. I strongly recommend this room to anyone staying under 3 months! You can meet many interesting people while having the convenience and comfort of a private room/access to your own fridge and kitchen.

The location is great and the host is very responsive to my questions/requests. They provide an info sheet which was very helpful for navigating the neighborhood. Wifi works well. It's the top floor of the house, so depends on the season it may take time to cool down with the air conditioner.
