Portland House is a spacious Grade II Georgian Property positioned in a village setting within an area of outstanding natural beauty. On the cusp of the beautiful counties of Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire it is the perfect base for walking, cycling, and canoeing, being directly opposite Symonds Yat at the edge of the Forest of Dean.

Portland House can accommodate groups of up to six people in a variety of rooms for all occasions.

The space
The Doward Room is on the 1st floor, offering a super king-size bed which can alternatively be set up as a twin bed, with comfy chair and Smart TV. There is a private en-suite with shower. Tea & coffee making facilities are provided along with toiletries.
You also have use of a guest’s lounge and dining-room on the ground floor with a fridge and access to a washing machine. Alongside the lounge is a bathroom with separate shower/wet area and a toilet.
Although accessed through the house, all rooms are really quite private.

Guest access
We have a large garden with plenty of seating which you are welcome to use including bbq and fire-pit. There is private parking to the front of the house. You can store bikes in our rear courtyard, with side access to the adjacent road.
We welcome a maximum of two well behaved and friendly dogs. We do not allow dogs on the furniture, especially the bed! Dog bowls and treats are provided.

Whilst we currently offer no cooking facilities, you are welcome to make use of the dining room and guest lounge for breakfasts/take-away food and crockery etc is available. There is a microwave oven and toaster alongside the fridge provided for your use in the guest lounge area.
A travel cot and high chair are also available.

Other things to note
Famous local shop Woods of Whitchurch, licensed with delicatessen, bakery & cafe that serves great coffee, breakfasts, lunch and take away service. Further choice of eateries within walking distance at The Crown, Old Court Hotel and the Potting Shed .
Activities within walking distance include Butterfly Museum, Mini golf and maze along with paddle boarding, canoeing and river cruises.
On local bus routes to Ross on Wye and Monmouth and easy access to the historic cathedral cities of Hereford and Gloucester.

My partner, Michael and I moved to beautiful Whitchurch after falling in love with Portland House and the surrounding area. We enjoy good food, sport, exploring the great outdoors especially walking and cycling and much more. During your stay This is our home and during your stay feel free to ask us if you need anything, or contact us by text if we are not around. We want people to feel at home during their stay, but equally happy for you to have your privacy respected.
