About this listing
Peaceful 2-bedroom house in Newtown/Darlington. Great location; close to the city, short walk to King St (cafes/shops/restaurants), 5 min walk to trains, buses. 1 main bedroom plus guest bedroom/study with pull-out sofa bed.
Hi! This house belongs to us (Luke and Kit). We're going to be away in Melbourne for 5 weeks and we're looking at renting out our place while we're gone. So you'd have the house to yourself, but a friend of ours who lives nearby would be available to help if you have any trouble with the house.
We like the place because it's a cosy and homely space in a vibrant area. It feels like a quiet retreat that's nevertheless close to the centre of the city. We've tried to create a nice environment that you want to spend time in, but at the same time there are plenty of attractions outside just on your doorstep!
Living, dining, kitchen, bathroom and laundry are downstairs; bedrooms and attic study upstairs.
Some other things:
- Wifi available.
- Reverse cycle air conditioning upstairs and down.
Interaction with guests
We may be around to welcome you to the house, otherwise a friend of ours will meet you at a convenient time to let you in and hand over keys etc. We're happy to offer recommendations for local places to have a meal, have a drink, how to get places etc.
We've lived in the Newtown area for nearly ten years, so we know the neighbourhood well and are happy to answer any questions about it that you might have. We live here because we need to be close to the city for work but like to have some green space around, so we enjoy making use of Newtown's many parks, great bars and cafes, and restaurants that range from cheap and cheerful to pretty swish. This is a great location from which to explore the rest of Sydney, or to relax in and discover the local area. Since we're theatre folk, we'd suggest that if you're staying for a while that you check out what's on at Carriageworks or the nearby Belvoir St Theatre in Surry Hills.
You've got your pick of train stations - we're equidistant from Redfern and Macdonaldtown (5 min walk from either). Buses into the city and depart from King Street (5 min walk). A designated bike path into the city goes past our front door and through Redfern if you're a cyclist. Free parking on street outside.
We want this to feel like your home while you're in Sydney. We're a terrace house so we're relatively close to our neighbours, so we ask that you're considerate of them in terms of noise. If you're a smoker we ask that you only smoke in the courtyard or on the balconies, not inside the house.
We've been together nearly ten years and have lived in Newtown for around the same length of time. We both work in theatre (one of us is an actor, the other a writer) so we're quite frequently traveling for work, whether around Australia or internationally. Lovers of theatre, art, film, bushwalking, literature, travel, good wine and good conversation.
