Feel at home over your visit to Toronto.
Enjoy relaxing urban dinners in a quiet garden just 150m from the subway entrance and the Bloordale buzz of indie coffee bars, vintage shops, delicious bakeries and fantastic restaurants, all just 15 min away from University of Toronto & Yonge St by subway.
With an open floor plan and plenty of light, the main floor flows from living room, dining room and into the large eat-in kitchen. There are dishes, cookware and appliances so you can prepare your own meals. Eat in the kitchen, extend the dining room table or dine 'al fesco' in the back yard patio. Take your morning coffee or evening aperitif on the front or back covered porch, depending on if you prefer sun or shade.
Two of the three bedrooms will comfortably sleep four in two queen sized beds. And up to six can easily be accommodated with a daybed in the third bedroom that can be used as either two singles or a queen sized bed. It is also possible to sleep on an air mattress in the large TV room in the lower level, close to the 2nd bathroom.
The morning bathroom routine won't be crowded with the two 4 piece bathrooms (shower, tub, toilet and sink), one recently renovated and both with excellent water pressure.
If you like to unwind from your day with some televised entertainment, there is a 46" TV in the lower level with digital cable and Netflix. This room is refreshingly cool on hot a hot summer day and has a walkout to the yard. Upstairs you will find an a 32" SmartTV in the larger bedroom with Netflix. There is high speed wifi and a printer available for your use.
Toronto can be surprisingly hot and humid in the summer but in addition to central air conditioning, we have ceiling fans in the two main bedrooms plus the living room.
And in the winter, the heated marble floor in the bathroom keeps your toes toasty warm.
A full size washer & dryer are available plus a clothes line in the back yard which is the greener option on a hot summer day.
You will have access to the entire house, backyard BBQ, but not the garage. We make the most of our small yard in summer with flowers and a small vegetable patch. Help yourself to some fresh, organic cherry tomatoes, kale, basil, mint and whatever else grows well this season.
This is urban living at its best. Feel like a part of the city rather than a disconnected guest at a non-descript hotel. You will hear your neighbours, but that is part of the experience. If that does not appeal to you, then this may not be the best fit.
Interaction with guests
I am happy to provide guests with detailed recommendations in advance of their visit to Toronto. I love this city and I hope that you will too.
We will give you the keys for your stay and you will be on your own. Someone will stop by to water the garden and respond to any questions that may arise, but we will not be staying in the house.
Other things to note
For something a bit different, visit the Toronto Islands and rent a canoe, kayak or bicycle. There are no cars there but some charming cottages, a few beaches and a couple good restaurants. You'll get to see the city from a different perspective.
We will try to accommodate flexible check-in/check-out times, but it you need to a morning check-in or late check-out, please let me know in advance and I will let you know if we can make it work.
This is a smoke free, pet free and fragrance free home due to allergies so we do not allow any pets or smoking and we ask that you do not use air fresheners or scented candles in the house.
This is our home and we expect you to treat it with the respect of your own home or your family's home. If you spill something, clean it up, but we don't expect you to do heavy cleaning.
Have a good time, but respect the neighbours. We all get along well and we intend to keep it that way. No parties and no loud noise after 10 pm.
My partner and I love to travel and prefer staying in private homes because you can better understand a culture by interacting with local people in a residential neighbourhood rather than staying in hotel. We want to offer our home to travellers visiting Toronto so that others can share this experience. We always treat our hosts homes with respect and leave them as clean as when we arrived, the way that we would expect our guests to do.
We are urban people who love to sample local cuisine, see a live band, take local transport and visit cultural sites. We also enjoy hiking in national parks, sailing and canoe trips.
Je parle Français couramment. Hablo un poco español tambien. A friend will be your stand-in host if we are not available and he speaks fluent Spanish.
