About this listing

The space

This is a 2-story, 2-bedroom house in the East Village. It's a very unique space - a little cottage-like house in the middle of Manhattan surrounded by trees. Truly a rare find.

Located on East 3rd Street between Ave B and Ave C. The house is set back from the street so it's very private. There is a large front yard with a hammock, bonfire pit and outdoor seating. There are also several mature trees including two apple trees, an apricot tree, magnolia and cherry tree, all which bloom and produce fruit when they're in season.

Inside the house, is an open floor plan with 17 foot ceilings in the living room/kitchen area. There are three large skylights as well. The downstairs area contains the living room/kitchen (no microwave but all the other basics including dishware and cookware), bathroom (with huge soaking tub and shower)and one bedroom. The bedroom offers a full-size bed, 6-drawer dresser, desk, and a closet.

Upstairs is a second, larger bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The bedroom offers a full-sized bed, desk, and closet. The bathroom does not have a tub but it does have a shower. There is also a separate loft area/tv room upstairs, which can serve as an extra sleeping space for a 5th guest. Also, the couch in the living room fold down to a full-sized futon.

There is also a gate house at the front of the property that can be rented with this house to accommodate larger parties. I have it posted separately on airbnb, entitled The Smallest House in the Village. It is a very tiny studio space with a full-sized loft bed and full-sized pullout couch. So technically, it sleeps 4 but, again, it's very small.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you,

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire house and the back part of the yard.

Interaction with guests

I am not far if you need anything but you will have as much privacy as you want.

Other things to note

The internet has been unreliable lately. It seems to go out after it rains. If this happens, there is an internet router upstairs above the kitchen. Please go up there and unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Most of the time this solves the problem. If not, please let me know and I will call Verizon.

The location of Olivia's home is fantastic, although about 5 blocks from the subway. The area is full of restaurants, clubs and bars but the house itself is very quiet. We have advised Olivia that, in our opinion, the quality of the furniture, fittings, linen and outside space falls far below what we think is acceptable. What is certainly an unique space now lacks love, attention and investment to return it to what could be a truly fabulous home. The space is not suitable for children or anybody with mobility difficult as the stairs are a challenge and the upstairs mezzanine is unprotected. If you manage your expectations more realistically than we did, it can offer you a great East Village experience. The Cafe Cortadito (Cuban) and the Cornerstone Cafe (breakfast/brunch) are brilliant and very good value. St Marks Place (only few blocks away through Tompkins Park) is full of options, life and cocktails! We enjoyed GG's and David's for great food - book ahead.

This is a great spot, in a great part of town, and so unique for a NYC apartment. Enough space for 4 people to stay easily, and a great clean and comfortable space. Location is everything for me, and couldn't love this spot more!

I have lived in NYC for 22 years and needed a place to stay till my new apartment was ready. Olivia's home was sort of a vacation within my own city. The cottage has a true NY vibe in that it is a bit DYI and super creative with it's design and features. A truly unique space. These are dying in NY and rare to find especially in the city. The place is in the middle of everything. You will not be disappointed!! I would recommend her place to everyone.

We had very limited contact with the host. It seemed she has been through the rental process many times and has it down. The neighborhood is great. I've never stayed in this neighborhood before and it was wonderful to explore it. Walking distance to lots of great stuff. A little far from a subway, but other than that - couldn't have been better. Olivia gave great information about area restaurants and other useful information.

A charming slightly studenty (at least, the kind of students one sees in films) place to stay; our NY friends were dead impressed by both location and ambience. Our hosts dealt sympathetically and efficiently with a brief plumbing emergency and the complexities surrounding the storage of luggage before an evening flight.

The cottage is a very unique little gem hidden in a small narrow backyard in super charming East Village. It was the perfect place for our small family of 4 to explore NY: there are lots to enjoy in the neighborhood and the subway is only 5 minutes walk away. We immediately felt at home in the cottage even though it is a little more worn than expected from the pictures - and we would definitely love to get back again.

My name is Olivia. I live in NY and work as a therapist. I have been lucky enough to call these three really cool spaces home -- a very unique little cottage in the East Village with an even smaller gate house, and a charming beach house in the heart of the Hamptons. I love living in the city but the house in Amagansett is the perfect escape when I need a break. Being able to share my homes on Airbnb helps me cover the expenses of both, meet new people and explore new travel destinations
