Getting around

We are in Zone 2 (Zone 1 is the very centre, Zone 7 is the very edge of London, so we are pretty central).

Journey times to main tourist destinations from our local station / stop:

Tower of London / St Pauls Cathedral = 20 minutes
Oxford Street = 30 minutes
Buckingham Palace = 45 to 60 minutes
Houses of Parliament / London Eye = 40 minutes
Camden Market = 30 minutes
Olympic Stadium = 45 minutes walk / 25 minutes bus

If it's bars, clubs, music and culture that interests you then you need never leave Hackney.

It's a perfect cycling environment - so I might be able to lend you a bike. We are also close to the City Bike rental zone (bargain price of just £2 per day)

John's place is in a lovely leafy part of town whilst still very close to easy transport links to the wild delights of east london or the traditional central sights. The room is huge with great big bay windows. John was super efficient at communicating and very friendly when I got there. He also went out of his way to help when I had a minor emergency. Highly recommended.

My friends and I had an amazing time at John's place. His roommates were also very nice and helpful and we really enjoyed the nights talking and drinking wine with them. We were three people (and stayed for three nights) so it was best and cheapest for us to take an Uber to Central London for our sightseeing - I would definitely recommend that! We got what we expected for the price we paid and great company on top of it. John also provided us with some good tips for sightseeing and workout options, like organized runs in the park, etc. There is no way one could get bored staying at his place (but you can also feel free to stay in your room and do your own thing). Thank you for the lovely time!

Myself and 4 friends went to London for a concert and some sight seeing. We stayed at John's house for 3 days and definitely worth the money and the experience. Had the house to ourselves minus the friendly cat that comes and goes. Large room, plenty of space in the bedroom for 5 people. Nice living room and kitchen. Access to the stove, fridge, oven. 5 minute walk to the bus, that takes you all over London. Great location, and I would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting London. Also a quiet area. 30 minute drive to the eye of London. Nice safe place to walk around. When I go back to London, I will be returning to John's home.

We arrived with 5 very nice and polite people and the host wasn't at home, so nobody could give us instructions like "it is strictly forbidden to smoke even in the garden" so we smoked in the garden (that's one of the reasons why we decided to choose this place). He was very impolite and out of any humor. the house was so dirty I thought the glass of the shower is like opal glass pane but one day after he organized a cleaner and it was just normal glass. The whole house was like a fridge, all of us were freezing in the night and when I asked him to heat up a little he said it's warm enough for him and left. ttThe cat was sleeping in our beds and I'm allergic, he said no party in the house and he made party (but it was ok for us we left the house). He tried to give us some recommendations for our trip, but he didn't listen when we tried to explain what's our plan. Also I had birthday and he knew it and didn't even said a word of "happy birthday". So we felt very uncomfortable with him the whole time.

The stay, in general, was all good. John was an open and welcoming person who'd always get out of his way to help us find a place to eat or make it around the city. The place had all the things we needed during our short stay and if we'ed ever need anything we could've easily found it in the house or a store nearby.
