Former Sea Captains & Artists home now open after a painstaking 18 month restoration.
Enjoy the most romantic and special view in the whole of St. Ives from the stunning balcony and bedroom with full 180 degree sea and harbour views over the bay and Godrevy Lighthouse.
Wake up in the most spectacular bed in Cornwall, or chill in our 4 person tin William Holland Spa bath underneath the sea porthole.
St. Ives most luxurious and romantic luxury couples property awaits....
The space
You will have this entire house to yourself. Set over two floors, and featuring the most romantic and stunning bedroom in St. Ives.
Wake up in our contemporary whitewashed Four Poster as the waves crash at your feet, and open the electric curtains to reveal the most breathtaking view imaginable. A stunning 180 degree view of St. Ives Harbour, Smeatons Pier and St Ives Bay, with views out to Godrevy Lighthouse.
Glass panels in our hardwood oak floor look down into a magnificent William Holland Alvius Spa Bath from the bedroom. Big enough for four, this bath has been made specially from tin to honour North Cornwall's rich tin mining heritage.
As you walk into our downstairs bathroom you enter our couples Wetsuit Drying room with bespoke copper shower and hot drying racks ensuring you never have to get into a cold damp wetsuit again. Once you have used this rooms separate shower to get rid of that sand, you can both step together into our double couples rainfall shower wetzone, or if you prefer the huge William Holland Alvius Spa bath. Look up from the bath through glass panels into the bedroom above, or chill underneath the original porthole with views of Godrevy Lighthouse.
The bathroom also contains luxury William Holland tin "His and Her" basins to match the Alvius bath mounted on original restored beams from the restoration of the house.
Elsewhere we have a brand new kitchen, complete with Induction Hob, beautiful SMEG Fridge Freezer, and wine fridge that is complemented by a separate island where you can dine if you decide not to visit one of the nearby stunning Restaurants that are a short walk away.
Should you wish to relax, listen to music or chill to Netflix, we have a beautiful cozy snug with couches and a music system where you can play your own Spotify playlists through the free Wifi. The snug features sea views as we have opened up this part of the property in our restoration and retained ancient stone walls and beams while incorporating modern glass panels and balustrades to let in light and views of the sea.
The balcony itself is an old wooden cantilever balcony that is a listed feature of St. Ives and must be protected unaltered for historical reasons. While it is perfectly safe for adults to use, it does require a degree of mobility to access. The access is by climbing over a knee high old stone lintel that forms part of the original thick stone walls of the house. It is a unique feature of this house, and a famous landmark on St Ives waterfront. It is not suitable for young children or pets.
Guest access
The entire house is yours to use.
Access is through the main front door on St. Andrews Street. One step up from street level, and you enter the kitchen of The Balcony Studio.
This is an old property with many low beams and stone walls. The access to the bedroom is via the original wooden stairs up six steps. The snug and WC can be accessed by a further two steps up from the Bedroom stairway. The stunning bathroom is accessed by going down six steps from the kitchen entrance. This stairway is through the original thick stone walls of this house and under a low stone lintel so watch your head here.
We have a Balcony on our sea side. It is a wooden listed Balcony. While safe to use, access to it is by climbing through the sea facing windows and out over a knee high stone lintel. During our restoration it was not possible to improve access to the Balcony as the property is listed and hundreds of years old. We felt it important to retain the original character of the property and our restoration was approved by Cornwall Heritage and Historic England.
The Balcony Studio is a very old stone built house, some say one of the oldest properties in St. Ives. While every attempt has been made during our restoration to accommodate people with limited mobility or disabilities, the layout of this listed property means that this was not possible. Therefore The Balcony Studio is regrettably not suitable for disabilities or limited mobility.
Other things to note
Parking - We are set right in the heart of the very old Fishing and Artists Quarter in St. Ives, and are surrounded by tight and tiny streets as we sit directly on the edge of the sea. When these properties were built hundreds of years ago they did not plan on cars. Therefore The Balcony Studio nor any of the properties around it has parking. You may quickly unload your car on St Andrews Street, and then take it to a parking option close by. We will send you an EGuide when you book, which contains information on parking close by, some of which you may pre-book in advance of your arrival. We always recommend ditching the car in a car park and walking around St. Ives and its beaches. Everything is close by and within easy walking distance.
Sea Facing Windows & Sea Balcony - While The Balcony Studio sits directly next to the sea and has stunning views, this property also can be inline with storms and huge waves in a northerly or north easterly storm. The house and Balcony can be hit on the sea side by waves in a strong winter storm. The view from our bedroom in a big storm will be unparalleled and extremely thrilling, but we must warn prospective winter guests that a storm in this property is not for the faint hearted as you will see spray hit the windows, and feel the thump of waves hitting the sea defence wall directly in front of the house. The Sea facing Windows have been specially designed from reinforcing designed to withstand storms and have three layers of toughened glass. Anyone staying here MUST FOLLOW our safety instructions at all times as there is a risk of injury or loss of life should our guidelines not be followed to the letter.
