This hut is super cosy, but very well equipped and spacious inside (think tardis!). Guests say it is very comfortable, and it is all fully plumbed in. Everything you need. With stunning views of the Welsh Black Mountains, it sits nestled in a calming wildflower meadow with lots of wildlife - you might wake to see deer passing your window. Sadly, not suitable for dogs, young children or infants.

The space
4 miles from Monmouth, this cosy rural hut gives access to an area that is outstanding for its beauty, wildlife, walking, cycling, wild swimming, kyacking, canoing and fine dining.

The hut itself has plenty of room for you to enjoy your stay comfortably, with a plush double bed (permanent, not fold down), 2 comfy chairs round a dining table and a well equipped kitchen. Le Creuset, Sabatier, Dualit, Emma Bridgewater and other quality items bring a little bit of luxury to your stay, with most of the soft furnishings from John Lewis. It’s also kitted out with eco consumable products.

At the far end of the hut is the bathroom with good shower (so important!), toilet and sink… no traipsing outside to a separate building!

In front of the hut is a stone patio with BBQ and dining area, and a firepit with two comfortable recliners for star gazing. Lots of cushions are provided and snuggly throws.

The hut sits on its own in a native wildflower meadow, where deer might visit and guests say it is idyllic and peaceful, and the views really are quite breathtaking… giving its location real wow factor.

The Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains are all doable from the hut in about an hour or much less, as is Cardiff, Wales’ capital city. It sits between the 3 lovely market towns of Usk, Abergavenny and Monmouth (the nearest).

We have the rivers Wye, Usk and Monnow all nearby with their precious wildlife and various water-based activities.

Monmouth has been voted the best place to live by the Sunday Times and, as well as lots of restaurants, cafes and pubs, there are interesting independent shops too.

Close by Skylark Hut is The Rolls of Monmouth estate, with it's grand mansion - formerly home to the founder of Rolls Royce. It is now The Rolls of Monmouth golf course, ranked 17th in the Golf World top 50 courses in Wales and it is walkable from the hut. In the adjacent woods are lovely walks, with the club house open to non-members for drinks in the evening (no jeans or trainers though). Indeed, the Three Castles Walk and Offas Dyke are a stone's throw away from Skylark.

On your way to Skylark, you will pass Rockfield Studios on the left… where Queen wrote Bohemian Rhapsody and Oasis wrote Wonder Wall! They do tours!

Guest access
The hut is accessed via a path through the meadow, about 50 paces long, and the whole area is enclosed by hedges and fences, but there is no gate to the lane (hence no dogs!)

Other things to note
The native wildflower meadow surrounding the hut was sown in Spring 2022, and it changes every year. At some point in late summer, it will be cut. This depends on the weather. In front of our land is a neighbour’s meadow which has sheep in it from time to time.

Neighbourhood highlights

A beautiful rural setting with lots of lovely walks directly from the hut. Monmouth town is only 4 miles away - about a 5-10 minute drive, with Abergavenny a 20-30 minute drive away. Usk is about 20-30 minutes too. Cardiff is an hour by car, and Brecon just over an hour.
