About this listing

Welcome to The Wild Side! Tropical gardens surround our lovely casitas. With a kitchen, outdoor dining, Wifi, hot water, fan, hammock, mosquito nets and queen bed. You feel the jungle all around you but are perfectly situated to enjoy the beach too. We are just 200 meters from the beach

The space

Our houses are simple and clean and in harmony with nature. We have quiet surroundings and many animals right in your own yard. You can see sloths, toucans, agoutis, kinkajous, monkeys, iguanas, raccoons, and many varieties of marsupials. We are on hand to help you with whatever you may need but we never invade your privacy.
Our guests tell us that they love our location and our gardens. They feel safe and taken care of. We offer bicycle rentals. The house has a kitchen so you can save money on meals and enjoy the pleasure of outdoor dining in the comfort of your home. We are close to restaurants and grocery shops and above all we are truly minutes to the beach!

Guest access

We have very fast and reliable internet! We also have direct beach access. There are few beach access roads along the coast so this is an important feature for those who want to walk down to the beach without having to bike or drive. From our location everything is accessible. There is a grocery market nearby. Cocles is by far the safest area along the coast. There is a local, family vibe that invites you to chill out and relax.

Interaction with guests

We are readily available for questions and information. We are happy to chat, but we never invade your space. We love helping people to get the most out of their trip.

Other things to note

We have three bungalows at the Wild Side that may be rented together

If you are looking for a quiet, secluded spot all to yourself, then this is it. We saw all sorts of wildlife just from the kitchen bench. The shower was hot and the supplied mosquito net was much appreciated. My only issue was that the mattress and towels seemed a bit old, not unclean just well used. Overall it was a cozy place to come back to every night. We saw sloth, armadillo, kinkajous, toucans, and frogs just from the kitchen.

This spot was perfect in so many ways, and I didn't want to leave. I think it's even better in person than in pictures. I spent hours relaxing in the hammock and watching the wildlife. It's nestled within a charming neighborhood just a few minutes walk from Playa Cocles and a short bike ride between Puerto Viejo and other nice beaches but slightly removed from town so it's very peaceful and quiet. Lara and Eric were lovely hosts and will definitely be back soon.

There have been several, much appreciated, upgrades to my favorite jungalow: an improved bathroom mirror (that short people can use with success), and a really nice shower head. I love this jungalow and this was my third trip back, although my first without family. While it is a great launching pad for activity -quiet, yet close to the action, it is equally great as a restorative experience for one. The quiet is an invitation for more jungle critters to stop by -giant grasshoppers, little frogs, sloths....really beautiful. The front porch is perfect for yoga, the hammock is excellent for observing the surrounding jungle. The best beach in town is a 2 minute walk. The best restaurants in town are not actually in town, they are closer to Cocles, where the junglalow is situated. Bike rental, at $6 a day, is a few minutes walk away and everything is accessible by bike or foot. Amazing place!

Everything about our stay was great! Perfect location, steps from a beautiful beach and a short drive or bike ride from food and entertainment. The house itself was cozy and surrounded by nature. Equipped with everything we needed during our stay. Eric and Lara responded immediately to any questions or messages we sent, but definitely let us do our own thing. When we checked in, Eric pointed out some areas of interest on the many maps that are available for planning your trip. Also, very close to the Jaguar Rescue Center, which was one of the highlights of our trip. I would highly recommend staying here!

Our 4 days journey in Lara's and Eric house was so nice !!!! The house is in the jungle close to the beach - it's a cute and cozy place surrounded by the jungle and the animals (you can see them really close to you) and you've got everything you need for your stay ! Lara and Éric are really nice and quiet person- event if they live close to the house they let you live your life as you want if you respect the rules which are really fair ! Thank you Lara and Eric we will love to come again ! Alize & Mickael

Exactly as advertised and better in person! Lara and Eric are exceptional hosts and have created ideal jungle hideaways. It was wonderful to be surrounded by nature and wildlife but yet be so close to everything. The cabin has everything you need - we cooked a lot for ourselves and there is a store just up the road along with fruit stands everywhere. There are some great restaurant options really close as well. The best thing was the beautiful surroundings and the wildlife in your front yard plus the most beautiful beaches so close by. The beach closest was beautiful surf while right next to it was like walking through a beautiful park with little tide pools in the coral along the shore. We spent hours there looking at tropical fish and often had our very own piece of beach. We would definitely recommend this spot to our favourite people!

Absolutely loved this place! Super cute and comfortable. All the plants were great touches to the house and the amenities were good too. Hour walk into town or 10 minute ride by taxi. Just a 10 minute walk to the Jaguar rescue center which is a must see! Beach is close by as well. Would love to come back.

Lara And Eric User ProfileLara And Eric is a superhost.

My name is Lara and, together with my husband Eric, we have created The Wild Side. We wanted something different than what we normally find while travelling in Costa Rica. We wanted to offer an affordable stay, but it be at the same time elegant, simple, and, above all, clean. Our concept is geared toward single travellers or couples who want a quiet place to rest, a kitchen to prepare meals, and a base to enjoy what the area offers. We are very lucky to live in one of the most perfect locations along the coast. Our houses are literally minutes from unspoiled, empty beaches. Most people tell us that they see more animals in our own yard than in the national parks!
Originally I am from Savannah, Georgia, and Eric is from Sitges, Spain. We are both dedicated surfers and enjoy the peace of natural living.
I work as a hairstylist in my own jungle salon. Eric is an artist/woodworker..his handmade wooden toys can be found in specialty shops in Puerto Viejo.
