Description
Description

The space

The suite was newly renovated by the owner who for over 40 years has built and renovated many new and historic buildings throughout Big Bend, including the Maverick Inn and many multi-generational ranch houses throughout the tri-county area . The adobe walls add a timeless appeal, the bathroom has been called "spa-like", and the kitchen and great-room are perfect for guests who love to cook, relax, and enjoy the company of friends and family.
Alpine is the perfect place to stay and experience all of Big Bend- with easy access to Marfa, the Davis Mountains and the McDonald Observatory, Big Bend National Park, among other great destinations!

Guest access

The Suite is one of two separate overnight rentals on the property. The Butterfly House, also on the Mountain View Road Rancho, houses beds for six. The suite is on the Southeast corner of the land and backs up to open prairie of neighboring ranchland. Though both houses are private spaces, large groups could consider renting both houses.

Interaction with guests

Kleo is a former wilderness guide in the Big Bend and is available to offer suggestions as to great hikes and river trips. Charles is a West Texas native, musician, and local builder. Otis is a 2 year old who loves meeting and playing with other kiddos. We are available to share with quests info about events and activities happening in the area.
The suite is totally private and we are happy to interact if guests approach us, otherwise we leave guests to enjoy the space and come and go as they please.

The neighbourhood

Mountain View road is a dead-end road, and a leisurely 5min drive to downtown Alpine. The suite is in a quiet, safe neighborhood with few neighbors. We are on the west side of town, therefore making it a graceful and beautiful 25min drive to Marfa. If you have a bicycle, Alpine is an easy, safe , and fun place to bike. The Suite is a quick enjoyable bike ride into downtown.

Getting around

Parking for the suite is 20ft from the front door, and partially shaded. The parking area can accommodate up to 4 vehicles.

Other things to note

For those guests who love to hike and explore unchartered territory- ask to be put in touch with our friend and long time hiking and repelling guide. Pam has permission to access private lands around Alpine for hikes to springs, canyons, and beautiful summits like Mitre Peak. For those with a little more advanced notice, repelling and rock climbing excursions are available.
Kleo is a yoga instructor. A yoga class catered to the level of experience and interests of our guests is available upon request.

I was raised on the coast of Maine and came to call Big Bend home in 2003 when I moved to Terlingua and began a career as a river guide on the Rio Grande. My work as a river guide led me to guide on the Upper Rio Grande in Northern New Mexico and lastly as an expedition guide in the Grand Canyon.
A love for travel sent me to India where I began serious study into Yoga. After years of living on rivers and traveling in India I settled in Alpine where I am mother to my young son Otis and wife to Charles. I most recently received certification to teach yoga and am interested to share this great art with guests.
