We found Nice to be a great place for a holiday: Great weather and food, lovely people, beautiful surroundings, and plenty to visit and do, including when travelling with children (Nice Matin publishes helpful information on local events). Bus (nbr 62) stops a few minutes away from the residence and takes you to the Promenade des Anglais within 20 minutes and the town centre within 30 minutes (careful though: It stops working at 8 pm). The public transportation sales office opposite the railway station & the tourism office sells 10journey cards for 10 euros. Detailed time schedules available online (paper version not detailed).
Lovely hosts. We had a bit of a bumpy start with the house as there was a construction site next to the residence that remained active the first week of our holiday (not a nice surprise as we had insisted upon the importance and peace and quiet when we booked). We reached a gentlemen’s agreement with the owners which helped although it could of course not make up for the lost sleep-ins, naps and relaxed conversation at meals. This being said, in the absence of construction work, the terrace is nice and peaceful and offers a beautiful view of the hills and the sea. Access to international channels via Canal+ allowed the sports fans in our family to follow the Olympic Games. The real athletes were in the pool, the sea or at Canyon Forest/“accrobranche”:)
On the improvement side: The ad would benefit from updated photos and more accurate information, e.g. the house is an end of terrace house, in need of TLC (also mentioned in another comment) incl. cleaning, includes 4 rooms, parents sleep on a moderately comfortable sofa bed in the guest room (fine for 1-2 nights, less so for 14), there is one room with a double bed (high up, mezzanine style) and another room with a single bed, in both of which 1-2 mattresses can be added on the floor to accommodate more people, garden and backyard are very tiny, just fine for a quiet read. Walking time to the beach is 30 minutes downhills via a path used by dog walkers (...) – of course, it takes quite a bit longer to walk back up to the house especially when it is hot! Shops are reachable by car or bus, not by foot. We took care of the cat, fish and mail. As already mentioned by other guests, the hosts try to maintain a casual relationship with their “guests”, which is nice, but the guests pay a price that is not negligible for a house that is in need of TLC. The best way to enjoy it is to consider this house as a simple, relaxed family holiday home, and a base for touring the beautiful region.
