Alessandro was nice and the wifi worked. On the flip side, the bed was very small (could comfortably accommodate one person or two children perhaps), the room was very noisy and stuffy, the shower was mouldy, the hall stank of urine and the neighbourhood was dodgy (prostitutes on…
Response from Alessandro:
Well, the bed was the same you could see in the profile picture of the room-you usually get what you see on Air bnb, so I'm surprised that you were surprised by that. Also, you could have requested an extra bed. I usually have one or two for extra guests, when requested. I don't really have power over the noise in the street, and the room is quite big and fully equipped (the word "stuffy makes it seem like a Bazaar or a Suq") -I've had people working and studying in this room even in the hottest summer, that's why of the table and chairs. It is true that the shower is somewhat mouldy-there's lots of humidity in that part of the house, most coming from a bad piping of the builiding. Hall stinking of urine...you must have smelled something coming from the street. I agree with you that sometimes dogs' owners could behave better. For what regards the neighbourhood, it is very safe and perfectly in line with the rest of Genoa. There are prostitutes at night toward the Old Town (not in my area, though), but this is fairly common in all parts of Italy and it is therefore a reality. Real travellers accept country realities and try to understand how things work, instead of being judgemental. Also, all of the things listed are beyond my control. Anyway, I think Airbnb offers real experiences with real people in real places (for a very reasonable price, I have to say that). If you don't feel like sharing this mindset, you should probably go to a Hotel.
After a bit of lack of communication on our behalf (sorry again!) Alessandro remained patient and we finally met up! He lives in a very convenient location and near a park with a great view over Genoa. He has a brilliant set up in his house, complete with full maps of the area, w…
